Sorry m8 but first tip would be to read up about nagra3 encryption which will render all boxes useless.

Normally I am pretty savvy and normally do not part with cash unless I have done my research first.. You are right this will render this box useless when it comes to my region.

On the upside it didnt cost too much and got it flashed and up and running in no time.

Will free to air channels still work after encryption changes?

No. Maybe channels 1 to 5 only but it may last a couple of months. the other channels that are FREE TO AIR on freeview are only FREE TO VIEW on cable, meaning u need a sub'd box off them to watch them. once it comes in it will kill them all except the ones previously mentioned.

this is what to do, when you have downloaded the firmware click to open it, and rename the flash , flash.tbn, put this onto your memory pen then into the back of the box , switch the box off/on with the switch at the back , the box will then reboot ,on the led on the front of the box it should say now booting , open flash , extracting flash then count up from 0 to 100 then reboot , you may have to do a deep scan using the symbol rate for your area 6887 or 6952.
if i helped hit the thanks btn
