Got Eurovox Max box from Leeds

Hi guys, I'm new to all this so please be nice to me
I've just moved over to virginmedia from sky. My cousin who lives in Leeds area had a Eurovox Max box. As Leeds is Nagara covered, his box was dead so I got it and am trying to get it working today.
I've done the following so far:

    Deleted all the channels
Set the box to factory settings.
Once it was reset made sure the code is set to 6887 - I'm in Slough, Thames Valley.
Have done full power scan. It searched all 770 channels. I can see channels names and any channel which has got a lock symbol gives me message "Insert smart card" or it says "Please wait, updating code". I've left this updating code to good half an hour or so but no luck.
    Even tried the code 6952.
    Could someone suggest something?
Is my area encrypted too now or is the box still somehow set to Leeds area?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your response. Emulation was already enabled when I checked it last night. I've been reading quite a bit here before I posted.
      Hope someone can help

        Hi Blue,

        What area are you in?

You may have also gone over to Nag3,if so your box is now a brick.

Seems you have done everything right!

as already stated Slough is not on the list but places near to you are nagra 3 so its more than likely you are.

are you able to view the free to air channels

has it still got the latest firmware on it, post back what it says in system information (Menu/Config/system Information/OK)

Smoggy when I've changed the frequency to 6.952 and did power scan, I could watch the free channels. Channels which didn't have lock symbol next to them.
I did what you suggested and here's the info from System Information screen:

                  Model: DVB-XC BOX DTA
                  S/W ver: 1.0 STC4 Apr 10 2008
                  H/W ver: 2.0t
                  Bootstrap: v002

Surely the software version is quite old?
I don't have the cable to connect the box with the PC to update the firmware and I've never done this.
Also I've read about these codes like 5c10 etc.. could one of them do the trick?

the latest firmware was from December 2008 and when loaded still shows the april date (apr 18) as it was just an update, but your box still has the old april firmware on it.

you can either update or enter the codes manually
you can get them off the bigmaq toolbar (posting of codes is not allowed)

menu/yellow button gets you to the screen to insert them

EDIT : you can also get them here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-v1-2-a-15751/

Smoggy thanks for all your help so far. I've downloaded keymaster from this site. Not sure what key I need to use for Slough / Thames Valley. Would you please advise? I'm pretty sure this area used to be Telewest so would I use 5A01?
