Eurovox EX5000 fried!

Hi, just got my EX5000 today. After flashing and whilst scanning for channels, smoke starts coming through the vents on the top accompanied by an electrical burning smell, after being plugged in for less than an hour. Hopefully the seller will replace this for me.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with theirs? Is this a common occurence?
