missus has gone to get right cable but ive done a fast scan anyway and my signal strength is up and down one second its 88% then its 2% will the fimware fix this, also chap in the pc shop said the usb adapter cable is not strong enough and wont work have to use the 9pin???????????

u need 2 cables, I've been told they dont do a single cable to complete the firmware update! You can purchase the leads from somewhere like MAPLINS Electronics.

Here are the serial codes for the cables bought from MAPLINS:

Null Modem Serial Lead (MUST BE NULL MODEM CABLE)

USB to Serial Covertor:

Why wouldnt the cable be strong enough? what does he think you are gonna do with it? strangle the box? I used a null modem cable and a usb adapter cable, as my laptop only had usb and it worked fine, But depending on how you are connecting, you may use just 1 cable
