    D-Link DIR-615

    Hi

I hope this is the best section for this posting.

I have been with Virgin on 10mb broadband for about 2 years and was paying ?20pm

I knew thia was expensive, but my BT supply was just rubbish.

Anyway I have managed to negotiate ?35.04pm for 12 months for 50mb broadband, unlimited calls inc 0845/0870 and inc line rental. After 12 months line rental increases by ?6.00pm.

First of all, is this a reasonable deal?

Also I am struggling to find good info on D-Link DIR-615. It seems to get poor reviews, but then so do all of the supplied Virgin Routers/Superhubs.

    I have been supplied h/w ver d:4 and f/w 1.00VG

Am I right in saying that if I wanted to supply my own router I might experience problems.

I'm asking now as I don't really have a lot of confidence in getting issues sorted out after I have been connected, and my BT landline number has been ported (something I'm not 100% sure is going to run smoothly).

The D-Link DIR 615 was an abomination IMO, had a lot of trouble with it. If you have a Wii, you might as well forget about connecting it wirelessly...

With the 50mb, they'll offer you the Superhub, another nightmare I only got close to the speeds required by switching to 5ghz (2.4ghz is too common and has a lot of interference). I believe there are plans for a firmware update in May that will address some problems.

Note, not all devices can use 5ghz wirelessly (i.e. PS3)
