    Nokia D-Box question

    Hello folks,

I have searched for the answer to ,my question but haven't found anything I am 100% certain about.

My mate has the original Nokia D-box a couple of years old I think. He hasn't had it working for a while, is it possible to get it up and running again? If so, is it the same procedure as the Starview and Eurovox?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Regards

I think what jfish means if its a nokia dbox1, if thats the case then its good advice, if on the other hand its a nokia dbox2 then thats a different story
        So is it a dbox1 or dbox2

          Hi,

It has d.box - MultimediaTerminal DV3 by Nokia on the bottom left hand side.

          Does this help?

          Regards

Sounds like it could be a dbox2 m8, has it got an lcd display on right side front, if so its a 2 and you would be better posting your querry in the dbox2 section.

look mate I am being honest, if its the original dbox then it worth nothing, problem is the early dbox needed alot of time and effort to get working.

however here is the info you need http://dvb2000.info-sat.org/ if it is the original dbox1

Yes it does have an LCD display on the right.

Jfish, no problem but it was the way you put up the first post that made me respond the way I did. I was only after some advice.

I guess it could be a dbox2 then?

                Regards

to confirm if it is a dox2

check the back of the box

                  should have

                  2 x scart
                  1 x network
                  1 x modem

now if it has a SCSI connection then it is a dbox1

It does indeed have 2x scart, 1x rs232, ethernet and telephon, as well as all the normal aerial inputs.

Sounds lke it could be the dbox 2.

One question though. I have read the link about how to get it working through the hyperterminal, but towards the end of the procedure what is flashing the image to the unit and where do you get this image?

                    Thanks once again.

the image is the software/firmware or even operating system which allows the box to take the cable tv signal, descramble them (with the correct files, software) and display the picture on the screen.

without the image, the box is an expensive door stopper

Thanks for that. Seems it is a dbox2 so may be worth a go getting going. It is a lengthy process using the hperterminal though.

                          Hi folks,

Is the image required in the guide for flashing a dbox2 with the hyperterminal. Is it the uboot file? If not do I need to also download the appropriate image, if so where do I get an image from?

                          Cheers

You can download an image from the download section, i use laky's july.

Then you need to flash the box with this image, you need to FTP the image to the /tmp folder of the box.

Use an FTP client like filezilla, a crossover cable, setup the IP address etc in the network settings of the box.

Then you need roms, you can get them here...

                            RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

You then need to copy all the files in that download into /var/scce and /var/keys.

Also download the latest bouquets and services for your area from the download sections, either that or scan and set up yourself.

Hopefully this will make some sense you you.
                            If not just ask.

or you can prob find more detailed step by step guides for each bit somewhere on the forum.
