    Probems with Broadband

    Hi Guys

Would anyone know why if my broadband is connected to a 2 way splitter (5 - 2400MHz) it won't work whilst another cable is connected for the TV. However if I directly connect the broadband into the cable box it works??

    Any ideas appreciated

    Thanks

Silly question but are you sure you're connecting the cable feed to the INPUT of the splitter?

Yes, cable from Vir@in housing box into the spiltter (in) and then from the out is one for the TV and one for the broadband. It has all worked without any problems until the last 2 to 3 weeks.

I've had the same problem mate, only my broadband was working fine, but i wouldnt be getting all the channels (on a vm box). more than likely a signal problem. is it a vm box? get them round to sort it.
is it a moody box? get yourself a signal booster.

Thanks for the info mate. However my setup now consists of VM box one cable into a two way splitter TV into a signal boaster and the broadband into a router. I still have no luck the tv works however the broadband ceases to work.

On the white box on the wall, how many outputs do you have? you should have 2. run a cable from each output. 1 to your tv and 1 to your modem without any splitters

This could be down to a faulty or old isolator, does the isolator have one or two outputs.
When was it originally installed,VM engineers are advised to upgrade any old splitters while carrying out any routine work.
Does it say Virgin or one of the original cable providers for your area ?
The most recent isolators are the tratec tris 182a these have red writing on and are single output, now there are still a lot of old Qualm isolators which have either a blue or red label on them these sometimes have 2 outputs, these can go faulty in time and therefore need replacing.
Have you also tried switching the ports on the 2 way spitter to ensure one of the outputs is not faulty.
I would also check to see what signals you are getting on the VM box via the engineers menu.
And make sure the cable is ok not twisted or been damaged.

They are no longer used now mate, all twin output isolators have to be removed and replaced with the tratec tris 182a.

Thanks for all your help so far guys.

I've just checked the isolator and it say Vocom Digital Qamtex 5 - 1000 MHz. It has one input and one output with the output saying TV/Data.

                        Quiet Possibly,
I would go onto the engineers page on the VM box and check the signal levels, and snr, also while on the signal page attach the the splitter with the cable modem to see if the signal drops.

if you have a barrel you can remove the isolator temporarily and join onto the direct feed which would connect into the isolator from the omni box outside in order to test whether it is indeed the isolator that is faulty.

But as shady77 says, you need to get a service technician out to have a look as what you describe is unacceptable service, i would also complain to VM customer service, you should get some kind of credit issued onto the account.
