modify a cable box for satellite?

Hello,

Sorry in advance if this is a silly question, but just wondering if my expensive paper weight, eurovox ex7000hd+ cable box, could be some way jimmied into receiving a satellite signal?

I'd guess most of the processing, after the demodulation and error correction stages, are similar for DVB-c and -s.
Anyone know if it's possible?

Or should I just spend the few quid on a sat box?

spend the money on a new box that has a lan connection.maybe twin tuners and hd?

I personally like the Starview HD Combo it's a shame that they the cable side is screwed but the sat works brilliantly on it.

boxs tend to use a tuner for each: ie sat or cable, changeing the tuner wont do anything as they use a diffrent signal between cable and sky transmissions

The tuner/demodulator sections usually require different firmware driver code as they tend to have somewhat different parameters (and very often different manufacturers). Unless you have the source code for the box firmware then you are really onto a non starter.

The guys who used to develop the eurovox firmware (i believe now working on blade boxes)... could they make the firmware public? or open?

or would that compromise their current work? Losts of eurovoxs about, could be made semi useful with a bit of tinkering.

Hi got similar problem bought Dreambox 500c and having probs (dont know what I'm doing) got sky mini dish up so looking to sell 500c and get a sat box. Any tips please
