    VM Question

    Hi All,

could someone tell me if the following is possible. Im a paid up VM customer my brother has VM broadband and phone, he also has a nice big plasma TV and a fridge full of beer. My question is if I take my box around to his house to watch the footy would it work? If it did would I be breaking any rules?

    Regards.

If you take your real VM box to his it will talk back and tell VM its the wrong address or VM will notice he is suddenly getting TV when he doesn't pay for it. Any other box will be fine.

Keep the modem in and talking back and grab a splitter and a bit of coaxial.

If you want cheap and cheerful mate I would go for the eurovox 1000sl. They retail for about 90-95quid mate. Have a look at this site.

            Thanks Again

Thanks again for your help, if I did go for the cheap and cheerful option like the eurovox 1000sl as suggested by Lanxman would I be able to just connect it up and forget it or would I need to keep updating codes?

What extra features would I get if I splashed some extra cash?

            Regards.

theres f/w released for the box that auto updates however it usually need to be updated every 6-8mnths or so. If you got the box you would need to load the firmware on yourself. To do this you will need a null modem cable and a null modem cabe to usb adaper. Once you have those thing's it's a peice of cake. You can pick these items up off flea bay for a few quid.

I don't think he was talking about a dodgy box at first mate.

Depends if your brother is is the same area as you, If for example you are currently in a ex TW area and Your brother is in a ex NTL area then the area codes will be different... so when you plug the box in it will boot up and go through the bootloader sequence this will probably then attempt to scan and come up with error 21 as it's out of it designated area.
If you are in the same area then no problem, you can operate the box anywhere within that area.
You will not in anyway have a return path sending information back from the specified node you are in,the return path simply returns the information from the MAC address of the box on the specified area network.

I would take it over your brothers drink all his beer and watch tv without any worries

Thanks to all for your replies, I'm going to suggest to my bro that he invests in a "magic" box.

In the meanime he's going to bring his beer around to my place LOL.

                        Regards.

Nonsense . The location/address IS the box .....and untill they fit a gps system in them they do not know geographically where they are .....
