    Which box to buy?

    Hi,

I've had a starview box for a years now and she's served me well. I'm looking to upgrade to a new box and was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of whats the best box out there?

I'm looking at different machines and am not sure which to get.

Is there a box that's regarded as the best?

    Thanks.

    I upgraded from Dbox2 to Eurovox EX5100.

The PVR option is what attracted me.

Keano if all you are after is to watch tv (no recording etc) your box is fine. It depends on what you are after before you make recommendations.

depends on how much your willing to pay.

the dm 8000 will be out at around ?800 , it has options for up to 4 tuners.

or there is the IPboxes, ranging between ?250 and ?550 but still need better software support, and not for beginners.

Does anyone have any info on the new Starview 4 USB??

I have read on a few forums now that they can be unstable when upgrading Firmware?

I have one mate and imo they're are a superior box to the eurovox, you are right there are some people who have had issues with then in regards to loading on firmware and bricking them but this is all down to plugging and unplugging the usb pen drive whilst the unit is powered on. I have never had any issues with mine. It was a very good buy for me. The epg give you up to 5 days and the box is very simple to set up. Overall very user friendly.

The bricking 8882 problem is nothing to do with removing drives. I know this to be a fact, because it has happened to me personally.

It's possible, as far as I know, to have a bad flash with any box isn't it? Like all computer equipment, things happen sometimes.
The problem with the SV4 is that, because of the way it's made, there's no way back from a bad flash.

This is true and sad really because it's a good little box.
