    really slow internet with splitter

    hi

i just set up my starview box and everything works fine but my internet is now really slow like 1.5mb when i use to get 16mb this is the way it set up

    1. telewest box on wall
    2. cable come out of this box
    3. this cable attaches to the splitter
    4. then out of the splitter i have two cable wires coming out
    5. one goes to my modem and the other to the starview

just wondered if i had it set up right and if there was anything i could do to improve my internet speed i did expect it going down but not by that much

    Thanks

same as my house mate. Shortest one goes to my modem though.

This shouldnt be slowing your connection down in anyway though.

Maybe coz its peak times etc.

Try doin a speedcheck tonight later on then see how it is.

Alternatively unplug your modem reset it and check again.

was going slow last night as well when i set it up .i will try later on tho thanks for the reply

could you also please tell me wether these two things are ok as well thanks

also dont know if this will make any difference at all but we got telewest in downstairs for the television and then i wanted broadband and the man ran a wire from the outside box downstairs up the wall and drilled into my room and this is where my telewest terminal point comes from

i know this might sound silly but i did get my splitter off ebay so it could be that it is cheap it is made by konig and has a frequency of 5 - 2400mhz

        Thats fine mate.

Your broadband could be suffering from a virus on the pc.

I am a 20gb customer and i was only getting 3. I Downloaded virgins pc gaurd for free scanned and this sorted the problem out.

If you call 151 and get them to check the line they will talk you through the process in dos mode. This will tell if anything is conflicting and restricting your line.

I have 3 splits from my main and have no probs whatsover.

Sounds very interesting, did the technician install a isolator on the wall upstairs, this is the compulsary white box ? same as what you should have downstairs.
I would attempt to connect directly to the isolator see if there is any improvement bypassing the splitter.
Unfortunately you will only get in Kbps what your PC can handle, we have installed quiet a few blueyonder services where the service was restricted due to the PC being either old or low in memory, or on a poorly configured network.
Our engineers carry high spec laptops to test the circuit prior to handover direct from the modem.

            Thanks again for replying

i have pc guard and done a scan the other day and there was no probs

well i connected the cable wire to the modem like it was before the splitter and still going slow

i even didnt connect it to my router and still went slow

so mustnt be anything to do with the splitter so i will give them a ring must be something to do with the line i guess

Thanks for all the replys i will let you know if i get it sorted

            Thanks again

If your PC is quiet new and you have enough memory then it could be either a modem or signal issue,do you have a Ambit 2055 modem ?
I would connect the modem to the direct feed in and use a LAN cable to test the network to eradicate any cable modem issue, when you phone the VM Blueyonder helpdesk in new delhi they will ask you to do this.

Well they are just robots, who read a script to tell you what to do,sometimes you can get straight through to the Tech Support Guru's in Liverpool.

                    Best of Luck

                            Slow slow slow....

The other thing to be mindful of is the type of co-ax cable you are using. Especially with cable it needs really good quality cable, preferably with as few breaks as possible.
