    virgin cable to freeview

class this as a stupid question, but just on the chance it may work,ok daughter has cable box in bedroom have double adapter taking a cable to sons bedroom, but he must watch what she is watching, had a thought as have a freeview box in cupboard doing nothing,if i unplug the cable from the back of his tv,and plug it into the freeview box then to his tv,will the cable outside act as one big giant freeview arial and give a signal to freeview box, cant put an outside digital arial up.just a silly thought,if works good stop him moaning in my face.thanks.

its a vbox i have, has rf in/out,rf is going to his tv at moment, but has to watch what his sister watches, not good when girlie program on,ok,what i thought i might get away with is,split virgin feed cable before it goes into vbox, and put into rf input on freeview box,and might get some sort of signal to freeview box, just like using the whole street of cable as an arial, but told wont work, hence back to drawing board,or pay ?80 to get an arial on chimney.thanks anyway

i have freeview arial on chimney, the council put them up around 5 years ago,but that last wind we had end last year, blew them down and are lying on slates, only held on roof by coax, the council said they are not responsible for them, even though they put them up,if i want them fixed, cost me ?80

edit:what if i pick up an old vm box, will it give the freeview channels from vm without a card inserted, that way could just splice cable to other box.

dont bother with another vm box wont work, even if you picked one with a card it wont work, the card will be blocked any way, option 1, new freeview ariel, option 2, pay vm for multi room, option 3, satellite freeview, pick a dish and box up for 40-50? if you look about, might be worth buying a indoor freeview ariel from like wilcos or argos, if it dont work take it back, which ever way you choose if you want to get independent tv in you lads room your going to have to pay.

hey u could try option 4 get another vermin box, splitter it to another room as it will give u the freeviews, you dont need a card for freeviews that way your kids get to watch tv without the sqwoble ..chris.

thanks for all replies, only problem is getting mixed signals, one person says cant get vm freeviews without a card, other say's can,one way to find out.take card out my daughters vm box and see what happens,if get freeview will edit.

edit:that was easy and simple,as soon as remove card freeview channels freeze, cant get normal channel like bbc,itv,ch4 or ch5. will have a look at indoor arial see what happens, being at sea level may not help.thanks all.

I binned an HD cable box a couple of weeks ago.

Look on flea bay for a:

                        Eurovox
                        or
                        VM HD box

Even an old D box would still get freeview.

There are a few on there and they will still get freeview. You may even get one with PVR
