My 1st post complete newbie HELP

Hello and what a fantastic site.

I have been with S** for 7 years now and i'm deciding to go to Cable reasons well financial.

I have the s** + box which is great but wondering what options are there.I'm on virgin broadband and phone and done a little home work but need a couple of questions answering if poss please.

1st>Whats the best cable box which i can record with and would i be able to watch one channel while i record another?

2nd>Do i need to take out athe cheap tv package to be able to watch on my cable box or use a splitter from my bradband.

1 not many options i'd suggest a dreambox 7025 with 2 cable tuners
2 splitter will work fine

!. I think the most popular cable PVR is the Eurovox EX5100. It only has a single tuner, so you can only watch/record one channel at a time. The best dual-tuner option is probably the Dreambox 7025. Expensive though.

2. There is no need for a TV subscription.

eurovox pvr ex5100 is a good bet, you could prob get one for about ?110 without a hard drive.

They take internal laptop hard drives but you can bundles which include a hard drive just have a nosey round on the google to see what deal you can get.

The ex7000 HD+ will take a USB hard drive for PVR purposes and does HD channels, although it's only BBC HD at the mo but more "rumoured" to come. It can look a bit cumbersome, with a USB hard drive knocking around, going rate is about ?180 - ?200 and the firmware isn't as good.

You just need to decide if it's with the extra money for the HD content.

The ex7000 HD+ i will wate and see if it is worth the money be for i bye it. max V for now. if any one has got The ex7000 HD is it good or not. max V is class love it

I have an ex7000 HD and yes it is good, but not worth the extra money if you already have a Max V

problem with eurovox type of stbs is waiting for a fix when they get knocked splash the cash get a dreambox, u wont look back

You could also consider a basic Dreambox DM500C. It doesn't have an in-built hard disc but if you follow Devilfish's excellent guide, you can record to your PC or to a NAS drive.

You can buy a cheap DM500C clone at DVBSeller. As they come from China, they take 2 or 3 weeks to arrive but they're easy to use and there's lots of great info about them on this forum.
