unsure of new box

    unsure of new box

    hi peeps,
    ive been a dreamer user for some years now, im now seriously thinking of looking towards pvr functions and HD. ive had my dm500s connected up to nas drive for some time and have found the results ok at best, poor at worst... i digress.

    anyways im researching what box to now get and ive stumbled accross the eurovox ex7000, at ?189. before hand i was considering parting a lot more cash for the dm800, but this looks like a much better deal. are these boxes any good, or would i be better off staying with the dreambox line. any sugestions?

      If vm throw a spanner in the works and decide to upgrade the encryption then any will be useless but you stand a better chance in the aftermath with am opensource box. The HD is nothing to write home about to be honest and with only one channel its a waste of money, they may have four more soon, but a vm engineer told me a year ago thet there would be forty soon, we are still waiting. So as always you take your chances, you may get viewing for a few years, you may not.. why not just get a dm600, has a good tuner, good support, takes a good size internal disk.. I know the ex7000 is probably cheaper but an opensource box has a better chance after the big one hits.

      Six of one and half a dozen of the other....

          nige do you know if VM have any plans yet on upgrading there encryption? some people are saying that although people are getting full packages for free that they are not all that bothered as its moving people from Sly to them and yeah ok they paying for the cheapest package they can but its business they wouldn'y have if it wasnt for the chipped boxes.

              i'd imagine that they will move encryption very soon m8, they have lost far too much revenue over the years.

              it is rumoured that their contract with nagra1 is due to run out so i'd imagine they'll either go to nagra3 at least or nds both of which arent hacked

                  ah thanks for that, i think i will sit on it for a little while and see which way the wind blows before i part with any cash. i was (but now not so much) thinking seriously about hd, i do love the dreambox though and didnt really want to stray away from that. if eurovox is a closed format then its not the format for me. the change of encription has been on the cards since i first got a dreambox many years back, but there has been a lot more talk about it, vermin has had a msg on the box saying to keep the box connected over night late feb as well so who knows.
                  thanks again i will probo just settle for a dm600 and leave the hd side as there really arnt any channels avalible as yet.
