thats a shame as you want us to advise you it will be harder.. you can spend from ?100 to ?800 on a box. The box can be opensource (linux based and my personal preference), these will come with more 'bells and whistles' and you will get far more out of them. Then there are the closed source boxes these are cheaper and will have less functionality.

Have a read about the following boxs, (google is your friend). If you have more of an idea about what you want your box to do then ok, but after you have had a read then you will have a better idea. Its your money mate be sure you know what you want as you might buy a right pile of shite because 'somebody told you to'.

        DM600C
        DM7025
        DM800C
        DM8000
        Ex5000
        Ex5100
        Ex7000
        Starview 4

I know their are others but I will let somebody else list them..

all the boxes with give you those channels, How long they will last depends on how long VM stay on their current level of encryption.. occasionally vm chuck a spanner in in the works and Eurovox receivers like starviews have a to wait longer for a fix to be released than a linux box... But when the big one happens (and please don't ask when as nobody knows) the linux based (opensource) boxes will have the best chance of being usable again at some point.

If it lasts a year you will still have got your monies worth considering the amount of channels you can recieve... What you get is always a bonus as their is no guarantee as to how long the fun will last.. I am not bothered by it and neither are the other people here, its like knowing summer will come, just accept it and enjoy what you have...

If you put the right firmware on you can get sky sports and sky movies. No idea how long it will last because that's down to VM if they decide to **** up the Nagra.

I personally would go for one with a twin tuner so I could record one channel and watch another.

The DM (Dreambox) are the main linux based boxes that most people use, many others use the Dbox2 and some use the Openmedia boxes. But I think only the DMs have the facility for internal hard disks. The others can be set up to record to somewhere on your LAN.. (i.e a PC or NAS)

not a valid question mate, it lasts... all boxes go down when vm throws a biggun.. when they change encryption all boxes will go down... the physical lifetime of a box is impossible to guess, if that is what you are asking..

wtf sort of a question is this? they last until VM **** the Nagra up. So they are all still working and will do until that happens. If you buy one today and it happens tomorrow then it lasts a day. If you bought it 3 moths ago then it lasts 3 months. Average has got nothing to do with anything
