"Chipped" VM Boxes

Hello there,

With all this talk of Nagra 3, and the apparent roll out of N3 in Ireland, would a chipped VM box be a worthy investment (I know some one, who knows someone, who might know some one who might be able to get one). Would a chipped VM box work with N3?

I currently have a SV4, but can see the day approaching when it is useless. (It has paid for itself though).

no mate, think it would be wasted money...it is chipped for current programming and not for N3.

Other guys will have more advise on the hardware to own that can have a chance after the changeover and when N3 is properly hacked..

To my understanding it will be the opensource linux based boxes that can be used, but only after the hack it available otherwise it will just be an DTA box like the rest. At the moment no box will take you through it..

I have heard talk that when vm go n3 they will issue their subcribers with newer STB hardware, I have no facts on that statement its just something i have read in forums..

Pretty much, from what I can gather.

Enjoy it whilst it lasts.

I'm in the UK, so hopefully should be ok for a good few months yet.

i've read quite abit on a subject of nagra3 over the past 6 month and as far as i can read into it im nearly a 100% sure its already been cracked.
what's the point in releasing something when its not needed ? that would be like showing your cards before placing a bet !.

i personally think you will see a nagra3 hack not months but weeks after its UK release.

Not strictly true the majority will take firmware updates online.

True but for people that havent been replaced with the new boxes they in turn will have to replace.

The reason the silver boxes where given out is due to the fact that virgin are trying to tighten the belts on so called illegal boxes.

So i think it will be some time yet.

Its an enormous task for the UK and personally i think we'll see phasing of areas.
But interesting to see if the 1000 models handle it,if they do it'll be an easier task for them.

As loncell says, it's quite likely that n3 has been cracked (have heard similar on other forums...), but it's not really been needed so it hasn't been an issue so far....

In my opinion, the boxes best placed to recover quickly will be the dreamboxes (all that open source software etc). Slowest might be the old Eurovox (that's the prob with closed source software!).

It's been good while it's lasted but who knows what the future will hold..................
