    Uses for Virgin V+ box

Ello folks! First post so be kind please

Ive just snagged myself a thebox usb and its working great , cancelled my ntl and have a V+ box sat there doing nothing, all the features turned off, wont even let me record terrestrial channels onto the pvr hd , can anything be done to enable it? Or is it just a fancy doorstop now? Seems a shame to lose a decent bit of kit.

    Thanks a lot

They will come an collect it eventually mate, its a just a subscription box, you do not own it.

The next part is that we do not permit discussions on modding cable company equipment on Digital Kaos as we would not want to do anything illegal would we..

Oh and welcome to Digital Kaos Chuffy, have a good read and make yourself at home..

Yeah they said they would come and get it, but i paid 150 nickers for it! Seems a bit off really, or do i get that cash back

Sorry for breaking rules, i dont want to mod it as such, would just like to use the pvr function to record neighbours for the missus !

you did not break any rules mate, was just pointing that out so that you are aware and why nobody will give you any tips on it etc...

You paid a bit much, i guess that was a while back... When they come to get it be sure that your starview is not in sight... Personally i would take the paranoid approach and unplug it for the day when you are expecting them etc.. You can never be to careful..

Cheers for the advice nige, I did consider signing up for Virgin again , but they said i would have to pay for a new V+ box , on offer at 75 quid half price. I know they can pretty much do what they like, but thats not good if its never actually your own box. I wonder how they justify that charge.

chuffy its still very handy. personally i wouldnt have completely canceled. you keep the box and have access to iplayer, and on demand facility. you will still have this until they pick the box up mind just run a splitter to your box.

If ya fancy messing with VM, you could always, ahem, 'mod' the v+ box with a handful of prawns.

              Step 1.

              CAREFULLY open the box.

Step 2. leave a nice little handful of prawns inside.

Step 3. CAREFULLY close the box back up.

Step 4. Half-laugh yourslelf to death thinking about the people in the place where they take the box ripping the place apart trying to find out where the stench is coming from.

I only suggest this 'modding' as i am a sick puppy and i REALLY like to mess with peoples heads in this way .
