setup help

HI im having a slight problem im running two dreamboxes a 500c and a 600c with a vigin broadband modem .the problem that im having is when all three are connected via a 3way splitter the modem upstream sig rises from 53.odm to 59.0dm which can cause my internet connection to drop. please can you discribe the ideal setup so that i can drop the incoming signal to my modem

my set up at the moment CABE-TRATEC BOX-3WAY SPLITTER
THEN 600C OUTPUT1=6.5BD MODEM ON OUTPUT2=6.1DB 500C OUTPUT3=6.1.

I thought the more outputs the signal should drop?
