    Buying a box for Cable/Sat

    Evening guys and gals.

I'm in the market for a decent HD PVR (after spending too long dossing with Pace & S.A. hardware) that will take 2 or more tuners so I can incorporate a cable and satellite tuner in one box and receive HD signals.

I need to be able to:

    Record in HD.
Playback HD video (divx, mkv, etc) from Windows network share.
    Configure software/firmware/functionality/skins.
Fit a 3.5" SATA disc (can't get 2.5" discs freely enough in big sizes).

I have done so much reading that my head is spinning now. I'm not at all familiar with satellite comms really but have had numerous cable boxes over the years (including genie cube things that plug into the back of analogue boxes and I've chipped the actual boxes themselves) and I don't want to close any doors to satellite material in case i move to an area without cable. It'd also be nice to experiment.

I've been drawn to the IPBox 9000HD PVR and CubeRevo 7000HD PVR. I understand these are basically exactly the same, albeit the CubeRevo looks a bit slicker?

Initially I'll need to able to apply that special patch that allows my cable feed to reach its maximum potential, if you know what I mean, but after that I'll be looking to fiddle about with satellite systems also.

Anybody have either of these that could recommend and give me pointers?

HDMI as opposed to DVI-D is preferred which I why I looked at these and not the Dreambox machines so much. That way I can get video and audio straight into my amp with one lead.

Also, when it comes to multi-channel output, is it possible to get the box to decode the output into 5.1 LPCM down the HDMI? If not, I take it the boxes will output the AC-3 stream down HDMI?

    Any help would be grand.

Well if you have a dreambox in ireland you won't get any support at least the cuberevo & ipboxes are getting help.
