    Bye Bye Setanta

Looks like the Irish company will be off air this week...the FA have given the broadcaster until 19th June to come up with the 30million for the coming seasons 46 prem fixtures...if not sly will purchase 23 and espn the other 23....and setanta will be gone.

the meltdown has begun, david haye`s heavyweight fight was pulled not because of injury, but because setanta were paying for it!,,,with no cash this was not possible so the fight was pulled...

so if on saturday setanta is not being picked up by your DB then you know why!...there is a rescue package by a russian company, plus the company that make big brother are interested in a `stake` in the setanta....if those options fail then they are off air.

Looks like a lot of TV series are going offline!
Terminator: TSCC might lose the battle as well

You are not the only one who has posted regarding Steanta Sports, Its been on going since last week with many updated trends from caveman_nige.

What is interesting is to point you make about the David Hayes fight I was woundering what happened there ! whats else is interesting is if Sky Sports were to carry that event it would have been on Sky Box Office... bringing in a nice bit revenue.

If indeed Len Blavatnik buys 51% into Setanta I am sure big sporting events or Pay Per match will be reintroduced as was the case back in 2006 when Setanta were riding the crest of the wave, Some like myself only watch certain Sports or even only certain football matches, buying a subscription for everything is not what I or many hundreds of thousands want...

Setanta's marketing People got it all wrong ! people will still spend a fiver to watch a football match maybe once or twice a month and maybe even a big fight night in totaly thats more than a subscription to Setanta for a month normaly is ! subscription figures are not everything if your not making money !

Its not as if Setanta were greedy unlike Sky Sports & PPV there pricing is very modest for what the provide but I think things will only change for the worst if they give up 51 % of the company to a money hungry Russian who will waist no time making his investment back will most surly reintroduce Pay Per View.......

Its not all good news I am sure...

setanta needed 1.9mil subs....it was only getting 1.3mil....i dont see them riding this one out....

besides, apart from `steve bunce boxing hour` and the odd footie game...it wont be a big loss to the viewer....

setanta is just on the edge of a ripple that is moving through the broadcasting industry....bbc have there hand out, chan4 are on the ropes, itv (big sister to setanta)..are also in trouble.....only happy folk...sly!
i wonder if virgin are feeling the pinch....i`m sure they must be in the same boat as they need the subs...and to be honest there ad campaign seems to have slowed down...few months ago ruby wax was everywhere...

Think your missing the point m8. I think it will be a big loss to the viewer because sly will have no competition and will raise there subscriptions considerably. If setanta goes you just watch the sly subs rocket.

cant see it...even sly is now giving away the the `plus` boxes to attract customers...a price increase simply will not happen...a push in ads will...this alone will attract new customers as sly will claim they have `exclusive sports...mostly prem football`...and they will have!!...
should sports fans want sport then sly is the only place to view it....most of setanta`s customers will seek to jump ship for that reason alone.

both espn and sly have the cheque`s ready...under european laws sly cannot have them all..so will seek to purchase half of setanta`s 2010/2011 prem coverage.
this will put sly in a very strong position, raising prices will not happen.

Remember Sky have been covering Epl for over ten years on Sky Digital and have never covered Saturday afternoon Football matches... because its to expencive, other have tried in the past with On-Digital and Setanta both have bitten off to much than they can chew....

Its just not worth covering a sport that is to expencive and has neary bankrupt two companys Sky and there accountants must know something others have ignored ....

Sky will not cover events that they have stayed away from in the past ...

Also Virgin XL customers get it included in the package - without that the XL oackage does look expensive at ?28 (if you have that service only) as some of us do
