Got a virgin cable in the bedroom and wondered if a cable dreambox or something would give me freeview?
Is there a cable box that can get freeview using virgin cable?

As cactikid says, Freeview is received on a terrestrial aerial. Freesat is received on a sat dish. There is no official free package on cable, but some channels are broadcast FTA.
There are loads of boxes on Ebay going dirt cheap (Starview, Dbox2 etc.) that would let you watch the free channels on cable, but there are nowhere as many free channels on cable as there are on terrestrial or satellite.
From memory there is:-
BBC1
BBC2
ITV1
Ch4
Ch5
BBC3
BBC4
Parliament
BBC News
CBBC
Cbeebies
CITV (I think)

It's against VM's terms & conditions, but I doubt thet it's actually illegal to connect a 3rd party box to their feed to receive FTA channels.
Don't know why you say it's not possible? Buy a box, connect to cable feed. Job done. It certainly is possible. My A750 is now a FTA box now that it's no longer supported. There are lots of those appearing on Ebay now too. LOL.Comment

I think VM encrypt most channels including freeview and read on the VM forums that it is illegal to connect a 3rd party box (not sure though if it's true like you mentioned however like you and I stated its deffinetly against the VM T&C) try it but I'm sure that most of the channels are encrypted. As when cancelled could not recieve any channels including freeview bar a couple of channels, however that was an VM box. It's against VM's terms & conditions, but I doubt thet it's actually illegal to connect a 3rd party box to their feed to receive FTA channels.

You should still get the channels I listed earlier, whether it's an official VM box (with the correct NetID for your area), or a 3rd party box.I think VM encrypt most channels including freeview and read on the VM forums that it is illegal to connect a 3rd party box (not sure though if it's true like you mentioned however like you and I stated its deffinetly against the VM T&C) try it but I'm sure that most of the channels are encrypted. As mentioned earlier, there are nowhere near as many FTA channels on cable as there are on terrestrial or satellite, but there are some. A few years ago there used to be a lot more. I remember when N3 first struck, that I could still receive the +1 channels of ITV2, 3, & 4 (although strangely, not ITV2, 3 & 4 themselves), plus quite a few more.Comment
