    Hi m8, welcome to DK.
There are no plug and play boxes any more. Whatever box u buy u will have to update the softwa*re/files yourself.
The new boxes will only have free 2 air softwa*e installed.

Virgin are in the process of changing encryption to Nagra 3.. Simply this means that your box could stop decrypting channels next week or next year.. If you buy a box and it lasts a month then ?60 is a bit of a waste.. but if it lasts a year then its a bargain..

How IT savy are you..?? If your an IT god.. get an Openmedia 500CS as its both a cable and satellite box so when cable does go tits up you can have a back up plan.. if your an IT biff then go for one of the easy boxes to update like the Eurovox

hmmm ops, vermin going to nag3 r rumours and hearsay rather than fact, but they probably will, (later rather than sooner),as for buying a new box the kryptview is best supported i would personally go for that fairly easy to set up too. then the dboxes which have more features but harder to set up, and these 2 boxes will have more chance of a fix IF nag3 does roll, if u dont want to splash the cash and just want it for watching tv then an old evox blue will do or the like, cheap as chips, but theres another possibility to think about, if vermin have another firmware change before the "encryption change" then its possible there might not be a fix for the oldest boxes, so myself it would be the kryptview i would buy.

I really dont know where the rumours come from,

next generation TV for Virgin will probably NOT be nagra3,, but more in the line of IPTV,, infact they already started testing this, and there newer boxes are capable of it.

                    UPC in ireland Nagra3 yes,,,
Virgin in uk nagra3 nahh dont think so

in anyways, buy a box with support!,,,, iTgate or Kryptview!.
                    boom!

I would go for an Itgate, some of their models can have a cable or satellite tuner, so if your cable did go at some stage in the future, you could buy a satellite tuner for the box instead and get set up with a satellite dish.
