    Cable freeview box ??????

Is there a cable freeview box available out there ???

I'm a sat box bloke meself but I need help finding a freeview box to run on a virgin cable line for the mother-in-law.

I'll cut a long story short......mother-in-law now has dementia (lives alone) and is really struggling with the virmin cable box as she finds it very difficult to distinguish between channel buttons and volume buttons etc...

I must add here she has not got an aeriel on the roof for terrestrial digital freeview (doesnt want to pay out for this at this stage in her life, bless her)

All I'm after is a very cheap and nasty freeview box, that only has freeview channels......and a channel list that can be edited.

I want to be able to edit the channel list so I can remove the music, shopping, childrens channels to leave the only channels she is really bothered with, i.e the main 5. Have spoke to virgin and they apparantly do not do a box that allows you to delete the unwanted channels.

I have already bought the mother-in-law a dementia friendly remote (this only has on/off, volume up/down and channel up/down buttons on it) so once i can get the right box for her, she wont be phoning me every few hours to go round and get itv back on for her, and to turn the bloody volume down from full blast

Summing up......as few channels as poss, edit channel list, and throw away remote ()

    Thanks in advance

I would think that almost any digital cable box would still receive the free channels on cable, but not sure about whether you can delete the scrambled channels or not.

An old Dbox2 would allow you to delete unwanted channels, but from what I can remember, you couldn't use a 3rd party remote. You had to use the original (unless anyone knows different). Although being a linux box, you could PIN protect (or even prevent) access to certain menus.

You want a Dreambox DM500C. I am sure lots of people on here will give you one, I would if I had one.

It's nothing to do with dementia, those goddam vermin boxes are crap, channels all over the place and can't find any of the ones you want.

I whinged at vermin about it, they sent me a new Cisco box which is just as bad as the old V+ boxes.

Thanks for that, didnt know dreambox did both cable and sat.

I've been on the phone to vermin a few times trying to get help with unwanted channels etc, they're about as useful as a chocolate fire grate

I'm sure that fitting an aerial for terrestial freeview would be the cheapest option, I don't know how old her TV is but most fairly modern TV have the freeview built in so that would simplify matters even further by not adding another box and remote. And there would be no need to pay for basic vermin TV, another saving.

Latest update..........thanks for all your helpful replies,

I have just got back from mother-in-laws and have it all sorted now, thank god !!

Decided to take her front room fireplace apart to investigate all the cables that were going in and out and couldnt believe it when I came across an aerial lead and signal booster (which was not plugged in but now IS. ) I had no idea they were there and unfortunately, neither does she.

But anyway, I sorted all the cables out, and now she is using just the tv freeview thats built in, with the dementia friendly remote, and I've got rid of the vermin box, and also got rid of all the unwanted channels that only confused her more, bless !!!!

Alls good, just wish I could set the volume to a certain level......but cant win them all.

                Thanks again everyone
