Help needed for cable newbie

This may be really stupid question so feel free to make as much of a fool of me as you like.

Question is do I have to enter my net id as well as an up to date cable.xml to scan for channels.
I'm testing a hybrid c tuner in my vu+. tuner is recognised no problem but was just getting no channels found which is fairly obvious as when i checked the cable.xml it wasn't even for this country . I have now found one for uk but haven't had a chance to try it
If I do need a net id can anyone shed light on the one i need for east mids please.

you can do a brute force scan u dont need a net id ,

Have you tried the autobouquets 'plugin'? Basic plugin, edit the script with your netid and run.

I'm not a fan of autobouquet well not for sat anyway. I'll just do a forced scan then edit the channels to match my E1&2 and tm/blade lists. I might give it a week or so before I delve into editing scripts. Chances are I will be running the cable tuner along side a sat tuner so I will most likely just sort everything with dbe. Can you point me in the direction of the plugin as I will have a look at it just for a little play. I was getting sid not found errors on some of the regional bbc/itv channels so I'm assuming my cable.xml isn't quite correct and that is one thing autobouquets do sort out very well

Edit. Don't worry about directions to autobouquets. I've found it but as suspected it won't work on a box using sat and cable tuners as it changes the lamdb so I would lose my multi sat channels.
