      UPC in ireland is using N3 but there were boxes with N2 cards installed in the past and as long as not every paying subscriber got his N2 card exchanged they cannot switch off N2.
      Ex chorus areas are a different story.

        If you look at STREAM INFO on a dreambox it clearly shows encryption
        system in use. Currentl active streams are 1801 & 1802.
        This suggests to me that all CHLS. are running on NAGRA 2
        and some if not all CHLS. are running on NAGRA 3.
        If N*L were able to turn off N2 stream to-morrow all the pirate boxes
        would only clear FTA chls..To achieve this they must first ensure that
        N3 does not interfere with N*L broadband,phone,& TV systems.
        Maybe Satsmo could shed some light on this subject. Could N*L achieve
        this in 1;6;or 12 months. Is the finance there to fund this encryption ?

          cable areas in Irl are no where near being switched
          over to n3 until all subscribers have n3 cards (well ones that work properly anyway)
          1800 = nag1
          1801 = nag 2
          1802 = nag 3
          all these are being used in mmds areas and no nag2 or nag3 cards have been
          issued in these areas so no worry for a while yet on mmds

            Thanks for reply.You have no worries,you're on Chorus-T signal. All boxes
            are still working.
            N*L mmds are running chls. on N2, so only boxes with N2 fix are working

              UPC have the money to fund N3.

              As was said N3 is already actively working on thousands of STBs, when the DVRs all get there new N3 card then they will start switching of N2 on the streams.

                You should differ between exNTL areas and exChorus areas.
                In exNTL areas the subscribers with N1 cards got the cards already exchanged with N3 cards and N1 was switched off. Currently UPC exchange N2 cards. In a few weeks the game is over in exNTL areas for true cable and NTL mmds.
                Its not so sure what UPC is planing for the exChorus areas.

                      It depends if UPC is planing to update or replace the old sagem boxes from chorus. The N3 streams are alredy on air via exChorus mmds.
                      The problem is not the network. The problem are the subscriber boxes.
