that is true, but to be on safe side it should normally be on for lets say the next 1-2 years at least with HD.Comment

There is no safe side the fact is No one Knows unless your the head of VM's encryption team which i doubt anyone on here is.
The simple fact is and was the same as Satellite you buy a Box you take a chance simple as that, It could last 1-2 years and it could last 1 day i cannot reiterate that statement.

Generally on the satellite side of things traditionally it was a hobby, if you had for instance c****+ and the keys changed you then moved onto something else. TPS etc..
This day in age every tom dick and harry is on it.. they're now doing it to save money pennies.. if it goes off everyone kicks off. yet back in the day it was "oh well, move on"
Nothing is ever safe in this game (speaking from a hobby point of view)..Comment

. Strange how you don't hear many of the longer standing members complaining or even missing out on their hd channels for that matter. We all know to enjoy it while it lasts but have also had all the available alternatives in place so that when the most convenient method went Black we used one of our others. I mean ffs nobody asks a Sunday league player how long his boots will last. As far as I see it same difference paying upto ?100 for boots to last 9 months or so. That's more than some of the plug and play sat boxes. Time to dry the eyes, borrow a ladder and stick a couple of extra lnb's or a motor on your dish. It's a big ass sky out there with a lot more than one bird.

The only trouble when you bang that drum they don't listen. The only time they do take notice is when the sh1t hits the fan.I couldn't have said it better myself

If vm do have a way of changing the encryption already, they would be wise to wait for the people who have jumped ship from sly broadband and subscribed to virmin broadband to join. Then when these customers have joined start the roll out for new encryption which breaks current cable CS methods.
If SD goes on sat side, cable will get a lot more customers speeding up the process.
With that in mind my total guess in the dark at the OPs question would be - at least a year, but like already mentioned it might go tomorrowComment

I don't think any provider thinks like it..If vm do have a way of changing the encryption already, they would be wise to wait for the people who have jumped ship from sly broadband and subscribed to virmin broadband to join.
