    Cloud Ibox 3 tomorrow!

Hi, Thanks to all for the advice viz-a-viz The Ibox3.
    Amazing Forum.

It arrives tomorrow, and whilst I have experience of Kryptview and Skybox F5, I have no idea what murky waters I am about to enter with this little beauty.

I have cable and sat feed, and I am told by other member(s) that I don't need subs to run the Ibox3 if I configure it myself..hahaha....ERK!

I am pretty sure I can manage the bootloader and firmware updates ok.
I checked out the cloud Ibox site to get all the info, downloads etc..

I will keep y'all informed as to where I go right and where I go wrong.
No doubt it will help others.
Altho' if anyone has a "How to configure your IBox 3" User Guide, I wouldn't mind a copy!

It will come pre loaded so to set it up use that image - as CK says dont try and update initiallly at least. It will most likely be open pli 4 which is a great image imho. E2 dual tuner box for ?65.00 ok but thy are not as stable as the more established boxes.

For cable you need to have a strong incoming signal as the tuners aint the best. A yellow brick (konig cable amplifier) will help boost the signal if required but that will cost you ?30.00.

Be very wary about updating the image. Depending on who you bought this from and what motherboard it has (you can read this through the air vents without opening up the box) will determine the images that you can use. Lots of great earlier backup images by Ferret and Alimac.

If it is a clone of a clone (not air digital) then the rule thus far is no image post 17 May and do not under any circumstances update the bootloader otherwise you will end up with a brick - not a yellow one! If it is air digital and depending on who you bought it from it should come pre loaded with the new bootlader and the images you will use are cloudix updates. Google "cloud-ibox.net".

        Good luck bud.

          Well it arrived.
Got it all plugged in exactly the same way as the skyboxf5.
It started up ok, and went thru the usual "I'm in a mood...who the f*** woke me up" routine.
I was then faced with a lovely snowy scene and a logo telling me I had Open Pli.

          OOOh, hope sprang!.
It ummed and ahhed for 30 secs, and then the black msg "Tune Failed".

I pressed menu and got up a series of options .... including network configuration.
I assume this is the road to go down?
This option revealed several other options, all of which included the word 'configuration'.

I might as well have been staring at the instrument panel on Apollo 13.
Houston we do indeed have a problem.

There isn't even a basic manual with it!!!. Do the makers assume we are born with the knowledge?

At least with the KV , (courtesy of this site) I was able to download instructions, and get it set up online etc.

I think it will go on ebay by the weekend.

Yes you have to set up the box (they are not plug and play) but you should normally get the wizard screen that allows you to follow onscreen instructions. E2 boxes are not like the KV boxes and they do take a little to boot up. The config should be relatively simple to set up you cant really go wrong if you follow the prompts. The alternative is to flash a backup image already set up for UK. You will still have to enter your own lat and longitude though and set up your cable tuner for your own net id. You flash at your own risk but pre 17 May should be ok.

If you wanted a plug and play type box you would have been safer with the amiko or Q5 boxes mate but E2 offers more than just TV if thats your thing.

If you need any backup images send me a pm with a valid email.

Thanks, I realise I have to set it up myself, but without any screen prompts, I am left with nothing...
I have no wizard screen appearing, and I also realise that without the presumed "built in knowledge" that the manufacturers assume we are born with, I can quite easily render the box useless.
I didn't expect a plug n play, but I expected a reasonable hint as to what to do next, without having to rely on the expertise of yourself and other helpful and appreciated members, to simply get the fta stuff?.

I have no probs getting my hands dirty too wise, but fer chrissake dont hide the toolbox! lmao.

I've been playing around with it, and got it to scan.
It found 17 channels, none of which looked familiar.
I went to the menu/setup, and found software update.
I tried this, and now it has locked out on the updating screen.
Unimpressive piece of kit all round.
I tried the cloud Ibox forum for info about setup. But they seem to have their own little club going on and not interested in non-geeks..
I'll try flashing the latest image later.
Thats if it will let me.

Be very careful about updating the box and that includes the chinese updates in lombards posts. They can do more harm than good. If you want base image send me a pm pretty certain if you flash that you will get the network wizard at boot up.

You shouldnt need to scan for satellite you can set up tuner a (sat) with usals cordinates and then go to plugins and download channel list with auto boquets or vice versa. Tuner b dual T2C (C) is set up by entering your net id, frequency, provider and qam then scan. As lombard says though suspect you wont pull in all the channels via cable without a booster. The T tuner is very good though and you just set that up by choosing your nearest transmitter by pressing left arrow keys and scanning to pull in all freeview. EPG is all set up via the plugins menu. Lots to choose from crossepg is my preference. Most can be done from the menu > plugins but you can also install manually as well.

Agree with lombard, fine for sat and terrestrial but not the box of choice for cable. Worth sticking it with it mate to get the hang of e2 boxes it might appear daunting at times but most of it simple stuff really once you get the hang of it. You will make errors along the way but its all part of the fun of learning. The image developers and testers make it easy for us!

I have a brand new spare box that I am just about punt so we might both be on ebay!

Well bugaloo, it all seems pretty academic now.
I just cannot believe that any manufacturer would allow a system to self-destruct by pressing 3 buttons on the remote!!
                          No warning...just nothing.
I pressed on software update, which just hung after download.
Then I had the cloud Ibox logo screen, and 'boot' on the front panel.
So, I had the latest updates from cloud.net etc...and using satdukers guide I updated.
( btw, I have performed far more complex operations on Kryptview, successfully and many times).

Now I have the proverbial black brick.
Not only am I miffed with the loss of ?70, but also apalled by the total lack of basic info on setup etc...

Ppl bandy about words like 'bouquet' etc..as if we were all born knowing it had other meanings than a bunch of flowers.
Not that I was allowed to even get that far!

If Trial and Error is the only route, then there must be a lot of bricks out there.

I doubt if any base image will load now anyway.
                          But thanks for the offer.

I hope prospective new buyers will at least learn something from this.
I still can't believe you can kill a box by remote!! hhehehehehehehe(Insane cackle).

                              Well bugaloo,
I have been looking around and according to cloudIbox3.com forum this problem has been around since they posted the new bootloader on the downloads.
The only fix they say is a component replacement.

Of course, in the true spirit of said website, there is no clue as to where to get one.
AirDigital has issued an apology (awww..how sweet).

There are several responses from ppl in the same boat as me, but no clue to a fix other than the above.
