original cable box

hi can any body please tell me can you use an original cable hd box as a free to air box and if so dose the cable line have to be live thanks in advance

In the past when I had a cable box, the line usually stays live and you can use box for a very basic poor fta, not as good as freeview, or freesat...

If you are thinking about using a box that was issued to someone outside your area, then it may not work due to having a different NetID.

As ontherack says, the FTA channels are very limited on cable boxes.
