q5hd picture break up- pulsing signal

    Hi guys

Got my q5hd and the setup was pretty much straight forward. However I've got an issue with the signal which fluctuates from 0 to 100% every couple of seconds. I've got a paid broadband + TV sub for the last 8 years and used Pace/Kryptview & Tivo on this line without any signal issues. The cable is split outside the house and I have a separate line for broadband and cable.

I've tested an old Kryptview A780 steady signal at 77% no break up, Blade 7000 steady 90%+ and Tivo without any issues at all.

Do q5's have a particularly weak tuner or is there a problem with the box??

    Thanks

I notice that the signal level doesn't change. It stays at 100dB (btw...I think the meter should show % like the quality one & not dB). It's the signal quality that is fluctuating. Could it be that the signal level is too high?

Do you have any attenuators that you could put in-line with the cable feed to the box?

last sec it dropped to 10 i thought ,100 sounds to strong and was thinking of an attenuator also

Thanks for the suggestions - don't have an attenuator to try at the moment - only a couple of splitters. Will try and get hold of one over the weekend...

The splitters would do the same job as attenuator ie cutting down signal so you could try them or one first.

Yep. If you have an F-type to F-type lead, you could try the splitter.

              A 2-way splitter will drop around 3.5dB. A 4-way splitter around 7dB.

Tried it yesterday with a splitter - not much difference to be honest. The breakup/pulsing slightly more but not a huge difference..

Was the signal level still at 100?

If it were me I would start from scratch,
                        take everything off
                        Q5 on its own
then add n remove stuff like splitters, Bband, attenuator, etc.... testing the Q5 everytime
the thing is , you signal might be too high but then again it might be too low.
Get a Konig signal booster about ?30 and try that or if you know a vm engineer tell him to take a peek in the box see were you are.

I found splitters that are 1-1000 weren't helping , I bought some that were 1-2450 (or something like that) and it made a big difference.

I know that the signal meters on some boxes aren't that good, but it's reading 100 for signal strength, so I doubt the signal is too low.
