There's alot of factors that might point to other things before I would say it's def the Q5. Firstly your cables, make sure there all fine. Then there's anuators and splitters, make sure you take any anuators off , some will say don't do that but it works for me so remove.
Make sure you don't have some cheap and nasty splitter , get a decent one, then there's "How far from the bband is your Q5 ?" . If it's say front to back or your home then yes it will struggle.
The best way to get it right is, strip everything back , no splitters , no bband and test your BBC against your ITV then slowly add. If the problem is still there when you have a direct feed then it could be good old virmin turning your signal down in the box at the end of the road so you might need to buy a signal booster. Buy a KONIG signal booster they will sort your problem.
    or
Take it round a friends/neighbors and see what happens on their TV, this way you get a better idea before you start messing at home.
