    mmds nagra 3 changeover

Is the ch***s mmds system capable of using nagra 3 encryption and is it just a matter of waiting for the cable viewers channels to go first and mmds will follow?

MMDS is fully capable of handeling N3, if you are in the Republic of Ireland it will most likely come first before the UK as Chorus & NTL all UPC owned companys are in the process of upgrading to N3.....

The upgrade form N1 to N2 has been compleated in ROI, as with all software you need to have the previous software up to date (the latest version) UPC are close to fully upgrading to N3 across Ireland !

So it wont be that far away .....

    note:
If you have an old General Instrument or Gerrald receiver these will stop functioning as they are not capable of taking a Viewing card nor the N3 encryption these receivers will become redundant

Once the ordinary Cable Infrastructure is put in place and broadcasting with N3 MMDS will follow as Cable companys use this technologue to transmit there service to different towns and Citys (hence the Transmitter stations across the country) you dont believe Chorus have a cable spreeding across the length of the country ?

UPC are not going to keep there Dutch Technicians in Ireland indefinitely to rollout N3......

Once Cable change MMDS will be in the same wave ........... there is no differance only in the way its received....

ive spoken to people within the company and the long term plan is to changeover
the whole mmds network to ntl-mmds....ie cable....so what that means is they are planning to have the whole country
on the same structure and if its true it will take a while to complete
as they would have to swap all the terrestrial boxes
also since january they have already switched over some ch0rus mmds areas
to ntl-mmds to facilitate the changeover

imho all the signs point to a very slow changeover for mmds

Lose your memory sticks? Forget to backup? Why not get 2GB of free space online, and I get 250MB too

Yes, but I thought n3 was completely unhackable

                        It seems that way allright.
The Cable network is where the real money is to be made for UPC.
TV,internet and phone calls can all be sent down the same cable.
Once they have the main cities covered Dublin,Cork,Limerick,Waterford,Galway ,I'd imagine thats most of their revenue base.
Chorus MMDS is an afterthought ,it isnt as lucrative and its network is old and temperamental.

about 85% of their revenue is from cable tv, broadband etc.

spot on m8, if it was a new up to date mmds network id be kinda worried but
their current cable network is like a ferrari compared to the mmds network
that is like a 20 year old ford escort that was stolen and crashed

also its about 2 years since the first n2 cards were sent out
                          very slow changeover indeed
