Have you got the correct cable look at specs as some have a chip that are directional and convert to ****ogue signal so the signal will only go one way down the cable hence no signal.
also have you selected the correct source on TV e.g. R.C.A.

don't know m8 should be where av hdmi in menu I would assume Google it should find out just searched sony tv gives you all tvs and models and option to download manual for all models.

        Sony

        Sony TVs
        1. TV/VIDEO button on TV or remote (if you only get sound, check the back of the TV for an EXT AUDIO/VIDEO switch, and if one is present, switch it to VIDEO).
        2. Press MENU, change Source from TV to AV.
        3. FUNCTION button on TV or an Aux channel below 2

        Sony VCRs
        1. INPUT SELECT button or switch on the front panel or remote. Problems with these VCRs may indicate the CABLE BOX CONTROL needs to be ON.
        2. Line channel below 2
        3. Press MENU, select Source ID, then switch to LINE or INPUT

        Sony TV/VCR Combos
        • INPUT button on remote
