Well said alun, post of the month. RTE nad RTE networks should be ashamed of themselfes. Even there own 4 digital terrestrial tv channels are on mpeg 4 streams which means that all the tellies bought with freeview built in dont work. The mpeg 4 stream is great all channels are HD but why not a dual stream. RTE SD and RTE HD.

The current RTE test is Not in HD only Sd 576i

Also RTE could not afford to launch there own satellite service and it costs them millions a year to stay on the Astra 2 satellite.

Truth of the matter is virgin will not survive without sky programming.

To dislodge sky as the big daddy virgin will need to invest in Billions of ?? to get all footy rights which sky holds. Even though Virgin media doesnt cover the whole country. Many streets are not cabled. Unlike sky who cover every inch of the UK

Not quite true as VM can do a deal with ESPN and they are bigger and have more cash reserves than Murdoch.

I reckon Ofcom will stop any anti competitve deals with Sly and will not allow them total domination.We also have the competition authority in Brussels who forced Sly and the Premier League to share out the top games and show the national tresures Wimbleton F.A cup Final FTA.

As for Sly starting up on cable I have not seen this confirmed anywhere.
