Stick the cable into the TV and scan the TV for channels, if its live you will pick up "free channels" BBC, ITV, CH5

virgin switched off analogue signal in many areas across UK so you may probably get nothing without a proper cable box

If its a cable feed you will get nothing depending on where you live as virgin have turned analogue off in most areas. You really need to lend a cable receiver from a friend or use a multimeter.

ive found that if you stick your tounge on the feed if its live you will get a faint impulse akin to putting your tounge on a 9v battery-if there is no feed you will feel nothing
