Coming from dm800 sat to cable, now a complete noob :D need help

Hey guys ive had my dm800 for around 6 years now which incidentally was the last time i used this forum . I was happy and now my dm800 has broken im a complete noob again, feels like only yesterday i was uploading my channel files for eurovoxes .. anyway im changing back to cable. My question is whether i could use a USB/PCI DVB-C card instead of repurchasing a dm800 with a cable tuner or buying some other box. If so how? what software do i use? It would be much less hassle for me than setting up a box mainly because i dont have enough space for another appliance in my room. Perhaps i could set up a box downstairs next to the router and just stream to my room over enigma 2? I have no idea which box to look into except dreambox, The firmware on my dm800 clone is so old and ive missed so much in the past few years my mind is blank i dont know where to start.
Any help would be appreciated thank you

Configuring a DVB-C PCI card will be a little harder especially for the 'magic' Part running on an operating system, Cable receivers are way cheaper than PC cards and which one you buy would depend on how to set it up.

There are quite a few closed source Cable receivers on the market that are basically just plug & play while others such as the Zgemma H1 for around ?70 work in the same manner as your DM800 did

in what way is it "broken" if a reflash would fix it then I suggest buying a cable tuner for a dm800 and replacing your current satellite tuner.Very simple to do and a lot cheaper option.
You will find various images around forums but my choice was Smirnoff rules open pli image.
