Newbie with a plan, input appreciated.

Currently cabled downstairs, TV and modem through a Tratec TRIS-102A isolator and splitter. Modem drives wireless network and house is hardwire networked as well.
Plan is to replace the 102a with a VQ643 (1 In 3 OUT) and send one leg upstairs to a new box.
Box is open to suggestions but currently thinking of a SV4 for FTA channels.
Phase two is to add a splitter and another box (high end loads of functionality) for another room.

I am looking for a reliable vendor for the SV4 but have seen reference to clones. How do you tell, does it matter, are they different, etc, etc?

PS are the boxes invisible to the headend?
