    Zgemma HD issues

Hi. Hopefully someone on here with more expertise than me can help with my queries regarding the Zgemma H2 receiver.

Wasn't sure where to post this thread as this box does Terrestrial, cable and satellite.

Anyway just bought a Zgemma H2 receiver. The satellite tuner (tuner A) is fine in both SD and HD.

However Tuner B seems to be having a problem on HD channels. All the DVBT2 terrestrial Freeview HD channels are freezing/pixelating/stuttering etc. Absolutely all of them!
Freeview SD channels are fine. The roof aerial used is good as it shows Freeview HD channels perfectly fine when directly plugged into a Freeview HD enabled tv set,
but when the aerial is plugged directly into this Zgemma receiver all Freeview HD channels are poor and pixelate/freeze often and some pretty much constantly. This is not
normal surely. Does anyone else experience this?

Now Tuner B also does cable (DVBC). Now I am not sure if there is an issue on HD using the cable side of tuner also. Can someone please enlighten me regards the HD
channels on cable, when you go to say BBC2 HD does the HD flag on the info banner lighten up or does it stay greyed out? Now all my HD channels are currently
just a black screen as I don't subscribe to any service or gift, but surely if a HD signal is present the HD flag on banner should light up. Am I right? So does that mean
the HD is faulty on cable also. Or does this HD flag on the info banner only light up on a HD channel when the black screen unscrambles and goes to a clear picture?

By the way I haven't changed anything yet, I'm still using the Open ATV image as supplied by the vendor.

Any help or advice appreciated. Not liking this receiver so far. Please help, thank you.

    cheers

Never had the H2 Model but from looking at some screen caps on the rear of the machine it appears to have some form of built in amplifier for the DVB-C/T/T2 tuner have you tried switching between On and Off to see if it makes any difference

I have same decoder and same problem. I tried to use an external usb-stick (aver media a867) and works fine. Don't know what can be the problem i tried to turn on and off the amplifier and nothing changed. Another friend of mine (a little bit far from me) has the same decoder with no problem. I also tried 5 different firmware...

Hi cactikid. Thanks. Yes I have selected the correct Terrestrial tuner within the menu. You can power the Terrestrial within the menu and with a switch on back of receiver, but I have tried all this.

Hi digicon. Thanks also, but as above I've tried the switch and the internal menu.

Hi sgalizia. Thanks for your reply also. If you have same problem maybe its a faulty batch of receivers! Thanks for all your help.

              Thanks cactikid.
The aerial is fine when directly plugged into a Freeview HD television set. Problem only arises when plugged into this receiver.

Don't think is the decoder as i said:

Another friend of mine (a little bit far from me) has the same decoder with no problem

I will try with a condensator and a noise reduction to see what happen (of course connecting antenna directly to TV i have no problem)

Thanks maca. I'm in Liverpool too, so we both get Freeview HD reception off the Winter Hill transmitters.

Hi sgalizia, I understand what you mean and thanks for the information. It's very helpful.

Ah well my Zgemma H2 has gone back to the supplier unfortunately and I've been refunded. My supplier agrees there is an issue with DVBT2 tuner in the UK at receiving Freeview HD broadcasts and he could not resolve the problem (hence my refund). Not all people are affected apparently, but I don't know why obviously as not everyone even bothers to try out the Freeview HD, so I cannot get enough of a consensus on the issue. Most people just use it for cable or satellite and its probably fine for that, but one of the specifications and selling points was the HD option on terrestrial tv through a rooftop aerial via DVBT2 tuner and for me it just did not perform. HD performed very badly in fact. SD through rooftop aerial though is fine. So I don't recommend this receiver at all if you are in the UK and wanting HD through Freeview, just my opinion of course. Maybe other UK users will test Freeview HD. The more opinions and tests by other Zgemma H2 owners the better.

Hopefully the manufacturer will resolve the issue with a software update or maybe its a firmware issue, I'm not an expert unfortunately. If they fix it I might reconsider buying it again in the future, but for now I'm looking at alternatives.
                      Thanks to all that replied.

A very good alternative is the TM Nano-SE Combo its dearer but is built in korea instead of china and of course feels a lot more solid as well, It's also twice as fast using the BCM 7362 dual core 750mhz processor. And it works perfectly fine with Freeview HD it does when i tested it anyway.

There are also USB DVB-C/T/T2 that work with many E2 boxes including Vu+ models. Don't know how good they are but may be worth a try if you already have a Sat box.
