VOD Not Working When Using Cable Splitter

Virgin On Demand (VOD) does not work when using a cable splitter which connects to one virgin box and 'another' box.
Both boxes are not powered at the same time.

I can view all channels on both boxes without any problems.

Any ideas what the problem can be?

    Thanks

Do you mean VOD doesn't work on your VM box when you've got the splitter in place?

Or do you mean VOD doesn't work on your dreambox?

When you add a splitter, you're effectively dividing the signal strength between the two feeds. Generally it's strong enough to cope with the split. 3 splits is usually the maximum you will get and still get all the channels.

You could try a splitter with a lower attenuation.

Try unplugging your VM box at the mains for about 30 secs.

VOD doesnt work on the VM box when the splitter is in place.
If I remove the splitter, VOD works again.

I've tried unplugging (resetting) the VM box but it doesnt make a difference.

I checked the technical settings on the VM box and it looks like the return path is off when the splitter is in place. Also the VGL level increases from 1-2dB to 5-6dB when adding the splitter.

So I think I may have to buy a better splitter or amplifier of some sort?

        Thanks

I had a message saying that it wouldn't work but then went ahead and still watched 'Life' on the iPlayer without a problem.

I cant even get that far to choose VOD programmes

However I do like 'Life' and cant wait until it's on tonight!

The workaround I have just now is to manually connect the cable to either box. It's fine for the moment but would like to get the splitter option to work eventually.

I have Virgin installing a telephone line on the 2nd November making the cable being split 3 ways (telephone, broadband, tv).
Should I ask Virgin to add a 4-way splitter and say something like I may eventually pay for another box to be added upstairs?

            Thanks

              Resolved

              This is now resolved.

My old virgin box (black in colour) finally packed in (ER02 code was flashing when powering on). The virgin engineer said that it was a very old telewest box that had been reconditioned.
So Virgin installed the newer silver Samsung box.

Now when I connect the splitter to both boxes and use them independantly, VOD works fine.

Hopefully this will help someone in the future.
