? have people in the card change area had new cards to replace the red ones or is it just old style cards that have been changed

I have had an old N*L smart card replaced. I just had a look at the old one and on that has Nagravision B on it with the nagra ID NA-04 on it. The old card must be at least 5 years old.
I reckon that if and when Nag 3 comes in and there is little chance of a hack then there could be an exodus to S*Y leaving V*rgin wih little to show in terms of upgrade subscriptions

Daft question.... but are these cards backward compatible? Would they work with Nagra 1,2 & 3?

If N1, N2 and N3 are simulcrypt as per other similar migrations yes the new cards will work on all three streams without any bother.

After migration is completed the old stream/streams are closed down.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas Adams

I have a new card in a V+ box and they have told me mine is being replaced.
I was not a NTL or C&W customer, only with Virgin for 18months.

I'm in Leeds and co-incidentally my The Box PVR dual tuner has not been auto decrypting with either Dec08 firmwares for about a month. I can only get it working by entering keys by hand.

This move will do for VM what the banks have done for the economy !
If they think this is the solution to there declining viewer subscriptions , what a mistake .
I have VM basic viewing package , phone + broadband .
If this is implemented current VM customers will either migrate to sky en-mass , or bin the lot and go to freesat .
Apart from the odd footy game (which i can watch in the pub)
your not missing much , other than repeats !!

I agree with a lot of what your saying but V/M provides the best internet broadband service in the country i for one will stay with them for that reason, V/M are in fact losing millions because of the pirtate boxes you cant expect them to do nothing and sit by while people steal their channels, we have had a very good run for our money in fact it got to easy, now people will have to find another way to get the channels it can be done in fact i do it and im not on cable for my TV but i had to do a lot of homework before i got there enough said .

Intrigued please say more!! I agree it's been a good run watching the footy but the point for me is that what you get is really not worth subscribing to. I will stick with freesat and internet streaming to watch my club

While i agree with you Mate , i think we're in the minority! The general concensus on this and many other sites is that most would immediately abandon VM for Sky.
Looking at it from another angle , rather than the theft of channels hurting VM in lost revenue , many people who originally
had a basic viewing package with them , plus a dodgey box , have gone on to get broadband .
I personallly don't watch much telly , excepting for the odd footy match , so if and when it happpens , i wont mourn it's passing too much , in fact , i've had more pleasure getting my box going again after a "freeze" and helping others out.
I'd love to know your new trick for free channels !

                          been reading tour posts.
was thinking of buying a new box maybe the starview one.
                          maybe i should think again.
has anybody had problems in there area getting channels on there box.

get one bought and take a gamble .it could be weeks months or years before they switch.
as for new cards ? if poeple think the sw3itch over will take " months" then your sadly wrong .i predict 12 months minimum before the new encyption is on and everyone switched off.

as for people leaving their droves ? true , verimin do offer a good broadband service but you can have that on its own and use there phone line for sky tv , you dont need a BT line.

there's more organisation making a ~~~~in pizza than at vermin head office.

I would have to concur with the above.. $ly at least 8 months for their card change, Nova 12 months and counting and still on going, and looks at least another 3 to 6 months, Premiere was around 12 months from initial changover before they turned off the N2 stream, so on past exmaples it does take a while, and this cable lot are not as origanised as some of the above forementioned organisations.

                                Hi newbie here???

Not new to cable or sat scene though
Been reading a lot of posts on here seems to me that to change encryption you at least have to run simullcrpt more than 1 encryption at same time just issueing cards is not enough has there been any N3 codes coming through so N1 and N3 or something else at the same time I have always been in the understanding that there system canot handle multi encyption at the same time unless they are going for a overnite thing i.e switch of N1 at say midnight and swap there system to N3 through the night this could cause major problems.
I will try and look on my linux receiver that now has both runing and see?

Let you guys know or if somone else has the answer??????
