MKV streaming cable reciever?? Lot to ask? Please advise

Hi I have a 3 yr old eurovox clone!

Its time to update, I want sky sports/espn HD channels bigtime!!! Now the EX7000 HD is a nice bit of kit under ?200 too however I stumbled across this site:

    Mkv Matroska Players HDTV

There are a number of receivers there that I have never heard of!!! One of which is the AZbox which seems unreal!! It can do your channels (I think), stream/play mkv files including DTS sound! Watch sky HD etc & even access the internet through your telly Bit more expensive though than the EX7000.

Basically, can one of you experts look at the options and tell me what to go for. I need something that has ongoing support etc and that works, and well! id hate to get something that stops working or doesnt get future firmware updates etc.

    thanks guys

    C

xtreamer and popcorn hour are just media players and you can access some web sites like youtube, you cannot use them to stream TV through i own an xtreamer, and if your looking for a good media player without paying xbox or ps3 prices then the xtreamer is a very good little player, it plays everything i throw at it with no problems

Hi sounds good but im after something that I can watch Virrgin Meeddia through also!

I was looking at the AZ box, man that looks amazing but I think its only for satalites!!! the hunt continues......

I was going to get a PS3 to watch movies through & blu rays but im sure there must be something on the market that is like a eurovox, a hd media player and anything extra is a bonus.

      cheers

AZBox does support DVB-C and there are people watching everything on it in the UK I have no need for anything other than the Elite model.

I'm off to get one to replace my PCH A100 and white generic dual tuner sat box. I run my fileserver over CIFS/Samba through a Sheevaplug (SABnzbdplus, SSH & squid) so I can recored straight to that.

Just be warned that there are still bugs and the software is rather immature right now. If you are experienced with either a DM or PCH (or linux) you should have no probs with playing in its filesystem.

CCam is ported and MGCam is stable AFAIK

One other thing, don't expect to stream MKV's over wifi...period.

Hi mate thanks for the info! Ive no idea what some of it means like!!!! little too technical for me! I need something plug and play really like the eurovox, maybe I get that and an xtreamer?

I did like the look of the AZ but if I have to add tuners etc ill never have it working, plus dont know what the code updates are like either. How much are tuners and are they difficult to fit?

            Hmmmm.....wonder what to do

            cheers

the xtreamer had some bad press on release due to fan noise, but that has been addressed with a new fan, you now have the option to make it fanless with the passive cooler,
i have never had a problem with noise levels, it really is a good media player for the money, i have not had any files or formats that would not play, firmware 2.0 based on new SDK, is due for release in the next 2 weeks that should iron out the last few problems like 1080 GUI, 1080 wi-fi streaming. it now has a very active forum so plenty of help is at hand, storage is good, the xtreamer can fit upto 500gb 2.5" internal hdd, plus another 4tb external hdd, also due for release is there own NAS(eTRAYz), this can take 2x2tb hdd, built in torrent client, etc
              i can recommend it

Seriously, even 802.11n is iffy at those bitrates. If you want to do 1080p MKVs then copper is the only way. I can do 1080p VC1 over SMB/CIFS shares without any issue on a PCH via a Sheevaplug and 3.5" USB drive and that will never happen on WIFI for the considerable future imho.

                Acronym city!

Please look at a Sheevaplug or Pogoplug (same thing) They are only 99 USD (?61 when I got it) Fanless and can to ANYTHING on a network. Add a USB hub and bingo, one cheap 4W headless server!! Screw everything else.

I too am sceptical about there claims of 1080 wifi streaming, but i will soon find out, saying that i don't use wireless, i prefer a wired system, i accept what your saying, but i just wanted a plug and play, and something that is portable.

I think streaming is out then for now!! that doesnt matter as long as I can copy an mkv file over. I wish the eurovox 7000hd played mkv files!! I would buy one now but I know that soon enough there will be a decent cable player that can do the mkv stuff. I liked the look of the azman but im hearing that it isnt quite right just yet so I guess im going to have to have another look at situation in another 6months :-(. I nearly bough a ps3 to do movies but thought Its not worth having even as a bluray player if im going to be having mkv files anyway!

                    thanks so far guys
