    Isn't the Vu 4K a Sat box?

There is an ex-NTL Teeside 00010, most NTL are 643MHz, 6887, 64 QAM

You might want to have a scan on 6952 as well.

For some reason despict all my efforts - scanning, changing freq etc and even digging up the cable in the garden (not cut and or damaged anyway) I still can't get a signal

Do you have reason to believe it's live? Do you have a VM account of some kind?

The line is here, white box on the wall inside brown box outside (I have checked the connection there also) and the last tenant had a account with them ( I moved in here 10 days ago)
If it's dead what next? I spend the extra for the 4k box with cable tuner if there is no way to active it might as well sell the box

If you have no account then it's possibly been switched off.

They do not generally switch them off unless the space on the TAP is needed for a legitimate paying customer then they would un-couple any feed that is considered not being used or subscribed too.

Another possibility and i have seen this for myself in my own area VM are currently upgrading all street cabinets in preparation for the DOCSIS 3.1 upgrade, Basically the CAB was stripped bare all connections severed and re-done fitted onto new upgraded TAP board any unused connections/non-subscribers where left dangling in the CAB.

So thats another possibility, Luckily i went back to VM around 3 months ago glad i did now
