So are you saying the only way to receive the channels i wish to receive is to pay a monthly subscription to virgin media?

Its rumored that some people do have boxes like Eurovox etc that somehow get channels they shouldn't , but as a law abiding UK citizen could never have one of those myself or advertise it on a forum.
If you search this site I'm sure you may find some unscrupulous posters who may indulge in this practice but not me, you may also wish to search V3 as well as this is something that could upset the apple cart in the future.

Get the cheapest box you can find mate (dreambox, dbox2, evox, digivox, sview) - might be that lots of boxes will become available and cheap very soon. The indications are that vm intend changing their encryption that will knock out all of the boxes. They are about to run a pilot in the Leeds area but it will then almost certainly be rolled out nationwide.

Enjoy it while it lasts this has been a long time coming and is long overdue.

The op in post 2 knows what he is talking about better than anyone - hes kept most boxes auto updating for years.

The original sunrise would give a more constructive answer.

I may be wrong but I dont believe the poster in post two is the famous au guy.

Simply get a dreambox 500c, flash it with dk image from here, put in magic files and enjoy all your vigin channels for free. For the price you pay for a dm500c it would pay for itself in a month.

DW you may well be correct mate.

Not sure about the in depth response though. I dont think SR feels the need to do that for every post and in any event he is in all honesty simply stating the obvious.

I'm in the same boat as this poster and I have the same package.

I'm looking to put a Dreambox / Eurovox in my bedroom, even if it is for a short time cause I'm sick of the rubbish that's on freeview hah.

Now I only have an ariel connection upstairs to a digital ariel in the loft which was recently installed.

What would I need to install a Dreambox? Would I need one of those white boxes that are in my wall downstairs?

Sorry for the non-technical names / terms i'm not too clue'd up on Cable recievers but I know what these things can do and I will look in to flashing images on to them once I know I have the stuff in my room to install one without any problems.

So, can someone help and tell me what I would need to get started with one of these in my bedroom?

to put simply, if you have VN cable in your house and its live, you can just plugin a dreambox 500c

But I don't have the white cable box in the wall in my bedroom, only downstairs in the front room. Would I need to run a cable from this box to the dreambox upstairs?

yes you would have to split the feed using a splitter and and run another cable to the top of your house. You can split the feed on the outside of the house in the whitebox and run another cable from there. but yes you would need another cable

What if the cable is already split to run another box? is there anyway of splitting it 3 ways?

Also, would I be able to get one of the white boxes installed in my room? I'm guessing there will be some people on here who can fit these things who work for VM? Maybe a job on the side? This will save me time and i'd rather pay someone who knows what they're doing!

I can assure you I am the real SunRise.

My post was meant in two ways:

                              1) Semi Humour - The best way is to subscribe. If you choose to use other methods you have the problem of cas updates/countermeasures etc.

                              2) Semi Serious - The reality is Nagra3/4 is approaching so any money spent on boxes now should be on the assumption that you will get a maximum of about 3 months out of it (meybe longer but I would not count on it). Now this then leaves you only one way to get channels - subscribe.

Now you may all go on about cardshare etc. but the pairing system on N3 is more complex which makes use of RSA encryption to securly transmit a series of numbers, of which an IDEA hash is made and used as a session key.

Most of the card sharing systems on satellite are based on the RSA keys been the same as the N2 cards when the provider used N2. We are at a disadvantage in that we don't have N2 cards to open.

The reality is whichever route you go now, sometime after xmas you will either be subscribed or without cable TV.

The future of N3 hack is not looking bright at the moment, with the experts on the sat scene having had it for 2 years+ now and there is still no public hack for N3. Glitching has proven to be hazardous due to brownout detection, checksums during the bootup on eeprom (if you accidently gltich these you end up with a dead card). The ROM180 I consider to be N4 rather than N3 as the entire N3 code has been ported from an ST19 processor a new secure ATmel processor - how this responds to glitching is unknown, but I doubt they would make such a move which would make glitching easier.

I hope that clears things up.
