what is a sling box

hi my friend and his wife and kids have moved to australia lucky gits they emailed me to ask about a sling box does any 1 know any thing about them and what you do with them you are supposed to be able to watch uk tv with it any1 know any thing

Yes you connect it to your tv via a broadband connection and you can control and watch your tv from anywhere in the world. I think they are around the ?90 mark. They have come down a lot from when they first come out.

AFAIK you can watch whatever is available on your tv. So if you have full sky package you can watch it from wherever you are.

I have one to be able to watch UK tv when at my holiday home in thailand and it works perfect, what ever you watch in your home here IE..sly/virmin/freeview it will broadcast this to you were ever you are in world as long as you have an internet connection
Can be watch either through pc/latop/phone or tv
Be aware that if you intend to do this for a friend that lives abroad that you would need a second box unless you are willing to watch what they want to

i have a slingbox pro that sends HD signals but you need a shit off a shovel fast connection for it to work perfectly.

basically you send out a feed from whatever source you want ,say a satelite box ( use the spare video out scart lead).
you then send it to the slingbox input and send a ethernet connection from the slingbox to your router.
then install the software for the UK off the slingbox web site and floow the piss easy instructions.

if you have the IP of your home or the reg number of the box you can then load the software to say a laptop and connect to the slingbox anywere in the world.

ive used it and then used it round a m8's with my dreambox on CS and used the TV out on his pc tothe tv and watched football.
dont get me wrong it aint a perfect picture but well watchable.
