here is the proof we were looking for about nag 3 oh dear

The long awaited roll out of Nagra 3 by Virgin Media to encrypt their cable services has begun, with Leeds being the first area of the UK to be upgraded to the new system.

According to reports, it will be rolled out across the South of England over January, the Midlands by February, and the North West of England by March. By Easter, all of Virgin Media?s cable services should be running with Nagra 3 encryption.

This will make it virtually impossible for anyone to view premium cable channels broadcast by Virgin Media except by legitimate paid subscribers, resulting in a serious blow to existing cable pirates.

The news has long been expected, after Nagra 3 was rolled out in the Republic of Ireland earlier this year, and hardware upgrades to allow for it to be rolled out in the UK have been sent out through 2009.

While cable pirates will no doubt be disappointed that their favourite premium cable channels will no longer be available for free, Virgin are offering two months free upgrade on their TV services to new and existing customers.

If cable services are no longer wanted, then Sky has been providing special offers on Sky + and Sky HD for the Christmas season to bring in subscribers to premium channels.

Of course, there are also options to use Freeview, Freesat, or even use satellite equipment to explore the range of Free To Air (FTA) channels, which do not require subscription services.

In the meantime, when approached by Techwatch for comment, a Virgin Media spokesperson replied ?We do not comment on security issues.?

We'll be kicking back here in scotland till after easter.

Ireland was the correct place to test as there are a lot less exchanges and fewer subscibers than the UK mainland.

Actuall probably 1/4 - 1/2 of London would cover irelands usage.

So its gonna take a lot longer than just a few months to roll this out from Lands End to .John o' Groats

Many of us have been getting free TV for nearly 7 years. Thats a very long time and I'm suprised why they didn't put a stop to it a lot earlier.

Also not forgetting the analogue hack which puts another few years on top of the 7 years.

Yep I lost all my movie channels and sports today, shame as I was looking forward to watching the boxing this weekend

I know its very early days but do you think there will be plans to have a box running on the new Nag 3 encryption?

Cant complain I have had a good run for over 4 years not as long as some ( but some of us were slow learners),so I will just enjoy the time I have left with my Krypt ( the irony is my krypt will end up in a krypt ).

Cant see a hack any time soon so we will all have to explore the wonders of satellite, just hope they have the patience for us all when we make a mass exodus on to their side off the forum in search of Saturday football.

better start reading and researching your options before you get black screen.

Is it just movies and sport that will be lost or all channels eventually? Im just thinking I can live without the movies and sports there are other ways to get to them

may do, but you will need a sat tuner.
