    Virgin + Box info..Please

Ok a wee bit of advice please if you can lads.

So im looking at upgrading to a virgin + box once Nag3 hits but what im wanting to know is. Can i buy one of these boxes from lets say ebay and connect it to my current setup saving me a bit instead of the ?75 from virgin & the ?30 instalation or do they need to do something different with the HD box instalation.

    Cheers Caulay

You can buy one elsewhere but in order to run the box you will need to phone them up and tell them you have it. You can only have 1 VM box in your house at a time and need to pay an extra tenner a month to have 2 running.

If you choose just to run the V+ phone them up and tell them you got it and want to setup that is if it doesn't plug and play and take updates first.

Thats what i was wanting to know if it updated and worked i would not need to buy it from them.

So i gather its just as simple as hoping it plugs & plays then replacing my starview with the V+ Box.

If you know someone with a V+. Pinch it for a half hour and plug it in on your line and test. Simple.

Sent the following e-mail to Dream Media:
              Sir,
I have been thinking of buying a cable box and yours come highly recommended but, in researching the options, I discover that some of the cable providers are about to introduce a new encryption scheme called Nagra 3.
From what I can gather from the Internet, there is a body of opinion that states categorically that your boxes, and others, will be rendered useless once Nagra is implemented. Any information you could provide on the viability of your boxes post-Nagra would be appreciated and would assist me in making a decision.
              Thanks,

              The response I received was:
Thank you for your interest in our products.
Using a PayTv Smartcard is possible in combination with a Ci Modul only.
Your retailer will inform you about the correct modul for your purposes.
For further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Does this mean anything to anyone??
              Keep dreamin'

Yes it means you can use your card in the dreamboxes and view the channels the card offers.

All the channels you pay for you will be able to view on your dreambox when you stick your sub card in.

let me see if i get this right, i have 3 dreamboxes around the house, i pay for L tv package so if i take my vm card out of the vm reciever and put this in a dreambox the channels i pay for will be able to view on the dreamboxes?

i ask because i was going to get 2 extra v+ boxes from the likes of ebay aswell but now i hear you have to pay 10 quid a month extra for each month, i dont think i will.

if the card does work in dreamboxes, could i ring vm and tell them my card aint working properly and ask them to send me another? that way i would have two cards instead of taking one round every room with me? i will try and get 3 eventually but over a period of time so it wont look dodgy .

Not as simple as plug and play. The dreambox will have to be setup to take the card.

Also if you phone them and say the cards knackered the wont send you a new card you will get an engineer out.

There is info on how to use the card in the dreambox section.

Have a browse and all will become a bit more clear.

                      cheers mate will do

one more thing, if i do decide and its a BIG IF, to get two extra v+ boxes for the extra 10 quid each a month, will i get two cards to go with them?

is there no way around this?
