    Virgin Are So Annoying

    Virmin make me laugh.

Can't get a bit of sense outa them. Was checking out Sky Packages today as my contract ends in June.

I am currently paying around ?45 for Unlimited Eve/Weekend calls and 20MB Broadband (throttling drives me mad). The few quid extra is to account for a few calls made from the landline in the day.

With Sly I can get Unlimited Phone, 4 TV packages, HD Pack, 20Mb Unlimited BB (will get about 17Mb/s due to distance from exchange) all for ?41/month. Free installation too.

Called VM to ask if they have anything to persuade me from leaving in June and they couldn't get near equivalent services for that price. The guy also tried to tell me that I couldn't get ADSL2+ from my exchange (I had Be Internet Pro ADSL2+ for 4 years until last June).

Best they could offer was ?46.50 for M+ TV (No HD), 50MB Unlimited Broadband and free eve/weekend calls. I can't find a single person who can offer me the free TV XL package that a sales guy offered me a few weeks ago either. Ohhh and ?35 installation (to plug in 2 things and screw 2 cables into a splitter) plus ?15 activation for broadband,

Looks like I'm off to Sly.

Ha ha...hope VM read this forum.

You've probably been talking to the wallies in Sales so far. Leave it until a couple of weeks before your present contract expires, then phone 150 and choose the thinking of leaving Virgin option.

This quickly connects you to a department in Scotland that are empowered to make decisions, and they are desperate to keep your account going. Tell them what Sly are offering you at that point in time. I guarantee you'll end up with a much better and cheaper bundle than you're getting now.

Be polite, but firm- don't let them think that you're bluffing. It might mean committing to a further 12 months contract though...

              Cheers- AL

im on sky and can state categoricaly they suck ass.
With BE i was getting 18meg constant (although never managed to get fastpath stable for a seriously low ping)
On Sky i get just over 9meg sometimes and just over 7meg is the norm.

No option to play and tinker either, if you install another router and they figure out your no longer phoning home they disconnect you, the firmware in the netgears is abysmal so even DMT tool has no possibility of straightening things out.
Ask them to instate a reset of the RAMBO and DLM to allow my line to refresh my bRAS profile, (this will allow you to actualy recieve your specified sync rate, instead of syncing at 17meg and only getting a stable 7meg from the backhaul to the DSLAM) the rep almost hung up and bounced me all over the world to different support centers.
Dont even get me started on trying to get your SNR profile altered

Asking a Be rep to do the same and voila it gets done instantly. In effect sky are about as useful as a shell suit oven glove.

The setup is frankly dissapointing and the only benifit is rock solid wifi (if you've used BE's speedtouches you'll understand )

                  Id steer well clear.
He who laughs last thinks slowest.
