Existing cable at new house, use Virgin box?

    Hi guys

Simple question really. I had Virgin at my old address. I'm still within my first 12 months contract but I've moved to a new address where there is an existing Virgin cable for broadband in my room which is linked to the house owner's account (he has TV, Phone and Broadband).

I have a splitter that I used when I had TV and Broadband at my old address and I just want to know would virgin be able to tell if I use my old Virgin box and splitter to get the TV signal through the cable for broadband? And is it possible?

Also, would I get the account holder's package or the package I had in my old home?

    Thanks

I don't know the answer to your main question but I do know that when Virgin install cables at a property, there is no difference between a cable used for TV and a cable used for broadband. If the cable you have is the proper Virgin cable, with an F-type screw connector on the end, then it should work with either TV or broadband. For the former, you'll need a set top box (Virgin, Dreambox, Kryptview etc.) and for the latter, you'll need a cable modem.

I do believe with a virgin box they have a talk back feature that sends a message to virgin that the box is being operated, so imo Yes they would know you are using the box.

Thanks guys. I'm not looking to keep the box past my contract date, I'm just hoping that I could plug it in, at least for the next month while my notice runs and I'm still paying for the channels! Obviously Virgin are saying that I would need to pay for an additional STB on the owner's account, but as I'm paying for the full package, I'd like to use it for the period I'm paying for!

Can Virgin see where (ie which property/area) the box is being used at? I'm sure the fact that it was being used, on its own, would not cause any problems at there end as the subscription is still active.

        Thanks again

          all will be fine

you will be able to use all yor virgin products with the feed in yor new house as the feed only supplies a signal, its your box and modem that de-scramble them so you would be using youre own account just remember to supply new address o virgin for billing purposes.

did you tell virgin that your moving? if you did then they shuled have stoped the account at your new house and put yours in its place. if they did then all is well. if not and they pick your address to see if a virgin box is being used and the account isnt changed you will get in trouble for "steeling" somone elses feed. best just to ring and tell them
