bravo bravo, i too go through all the searches ect, read what i think im supposed to, all to no avail sometimes, i use the trial and error system rather than getting slagged off for being new to something thats been going on for years, so thank you for your post, i think you speak for a lot of us newbies out here in the cold....Well, thanks very much all of you above.
Yes, us 'Noobs' / 'newbies' etc do come to this site when we need some technical advice. Stupidly, we are under the impression that this is what this site is for. Not all of us are blessed with the knowledge and experience that you have and have a difficult time enough trying to understand all the abbreviations that you clever people write on your posts and expect us to understand what you're on about. Thats why it puts us off visiting, sometimes the more you read, the more confusing it gets and responses like these make you not bother. We ask a question and get told to go all over the forum to find the answers ourselves which is nigh on impossible given the amount of threads, or we're told how thick we are and how impatient you are with us. Some of us work and run homes and don't have the time to sit and learn this stuff all day and night.
As for trying to get some free channels, isn't that what you've all done and are doing? I take exception to the patronising way you treat us newbies as thick and greedy, jumping on a bandwagon trying to get something for nothing. I do happen to be paying to a cable tv company, I bet half of you clever people aren't paying anything and haven't for years. You were thick like us too once upon a time.
Fortunately there are some nice people on here, but all you clever, know everything, patronising types create the problems you actually complain about. So, leave it to the nice people to respond or have a think about yourselves and change your attitude.Comment

I think people have got there estimations of a full uk roll out of nag 3 by easter completly wrong. I live in kent and there hasnt been anything from virgin even mentioning anything about new cards being sent out. My estimation is more like christmas for a full uk roll out. p.s im not a box dealer

The way I see it is that in the previous years when the only way to "steal cable tv" was to either buy a modified vm box from a dealer or get on a site and learn how to modify vm boxes.
You still got the newbies and everyone started at some time that way.. But in them days there was no quick fix newbies.. You either took a look at angels guide and ran or got right into it.
Then came the hobbyist and linux boxes which in the same way created newbies that either faded after one look or struggled though to become adapt at keeping a box running.
Then came the dedicated boxes. Starview Kryptview ect'. These were made for non tech people sold at computer fairs/shops/online and given the advice that "If you have any problems or need an update go to this site!" Kryptview even has direct links to a cable forum. So now we have (or will have) an influx of newbies asking questions that to old timers on the cables sites are inane and infuriating. Well times have changed we no longer have cliquey dedicated hobbyist forums like we used to have.. Now we have open access for all, which means people will feel that they're totally vindicated in sitting and taking without contributing and to be honest what the hell can these people contribute to keeping boxes running? Not a lot!
We have to accept that the old scene is gone and once N3 is national there is going to be a massive increase in newbie traffic until the message gets out there. No point in going on about it, just accept it for what it is. Eventually the cable scene will become stagnant with only the die hard being around and then only to reminisce...
Until N3 is hacked and then watch this space.... LOL.

I'm a bit shocked at the news it's all coming to an end! I've only just got my box!
I have to put my hands up, I know nothing about all of this. My mate bought me a box for my birthday and told me to get a firmware update for it.
I guess I'm a user cos I just want the firmware download, though I'd be on her more if I didn't have a new baby to look after.
I am a music tech tutor so I'm more than happy to help if anyone's got any home studio issues.
I'm well aware there should be some give as well as take!Comment

i think there's different types of 'noobs' - 1 that want to learn, fix it for themselves. they don't have to stay around and help out - they spend time reading up on things, trying it out - they do research into there box. Then there's the ones who post 'fix my box please' - want no other effort than the boxed fixed as quick as possible, minmial effort so they can get back to watching the free TV. this is what annoys long time members, even people who have helped for many years, spread the word, replied to PM's and often posted the same info in various threads even though it was already there. Some want to learn, some just want to take.
It's a shame there are traders selling on these boxes knowing full well whats happening to buyers but thats how it goes, people should be aware of what they're buying.Comment

the sheer amount of information available on the net not just this forum is abundant theres heaps and heaps of info every where many years worth of info
every question one noob asks has been asked 1000s times prior to that question
people come here expecting answers expecting this and expecting that when at the end of the day its not these peoples / our jobs to provide you with information you look for
information, help, tutorials, assistance, downloads and advice is given to people out of there own time off there own backs, no one get paid its not our jobs , its done out of the kindness of hearts , what you dont think people who post dont have lives and familys and homes to attend to as-well?
my box gone down in so so area ...... whats all this N3 about .... where do i find latest firmware ... are just some of the questions and comments posted 100s a times a day at the minute by different people all over the country experiencing the same problem
the reason people arnt so exited and ex-static about answering these posts and questions is there constantly having to write up the same stuff over and over again
which again is in there own time and are under no obligation to do so , which wouldn't have to happen if people spent 25 miniutes reading and reserch it for themselves
nobody on here is naturally blessed with the knowledge how to hack cable tv , cardshare , setup motorized systems , build pcs or diagnose cars or in my case spell
, its not something your born into knowing you have to learn research, experiment and test and take time out of that busy life of yours to learn and understand what it is your trying to achieve. as much as people want everything handed to them on a silver plate we aint your parents and it aint dinner time.
Even tho some people spend upto 8 hours a day on here providing info off there own back to help and advice people ask your self what do they get out of it other than a little thanks mark under the post (which not everybody even does), they do it to help and feel good about themselves in the knowing they have helped others
this forum is much friendlier helpful and open to subjects more than you will find anywhere on the net bar a few touchy subjects which refrain us from talking about in the ever changing rules , but thats there to keep the forum alive and stop the powers that be shutting the forum down
people should have more respect and appriciation for what they do get instead of moaning about what they dont get
i could go on for another 2 pages but my fingers hurt rant over out of breath

Must admit mate I have been amazed at the amount of people in Nag3 areas looking for fixes etc.
Anybody buying a box now without researching deserves to be ripped off, I am sorry but I have always looked for feedback on boxes, suppliers, ease of use etc etc also, am I going to get value for money from my purchase.
You cant blame suppliers for ripping off the gullible.
I know engineers who are still selling chipped Virgin boxes to punters,it should be fun at their houses in a few weeks.
The common excuse to used to deceive seems to be to crack daft and make out you don?t know what the fuss is about.Comment
