HD picture quality - virgin v sky

Hi, have just got off the phone after speaking to virgin about tv upgrades etc (with changes imminent!) and was told by the operator that virgin HD has a far superior picture quality than sky hd. She said that virgin are the market leaders and once u've seen it you won't want sky.

I'm in no position to judge (having not seen either) but wondered if anyone had an opinion?

    Cheers

it's not the channels on offer, it's the quality.

there's some debate which of skys channels are 720i and not 1080i (1080p not tranmitted on any platform) but supposedly all VM channels are broadcast in 1080i (even if the source program isn't) . i read it somewhere. twas on the internet so it must be true.

The main thing that made me change to Sly hd is that they have 37 hd channels as opposed to virmins 7.

By June/July 2010 Virgin will have all the main HD channels including Sports and Movies (about 25 in total).
As for quality they are much the same unless it snows heavy on your dish half way through the fkn football.

I have both at the moment as I have got a half price deal on sky and I still use a kryptview hd upstairs untill N3 hits.

Used both systems on a panny tx42v10b and in my opinion both vm and sky hd pictures are equally as good and I just can't tell the difference.

I've decided to use the sky as my main viewing box as there is just way much more choice in the hd field at the moment and I'm very happy with all aspects of it. Sky have a flagship hd channel called Deluxe tv and it's a gob smackingly awesome picture.

I suppose someone with test equipment and all the engineer gear might be able to give you heavy duty comparisons.. But to be honest as a viewer with a decent tv wanting a decent hd picture I'm happy with sky.

I've been told the hd vm boxes are pretty slow too compared to the sky boxes.

I'd like to be able to compare itv hd footy but as yet VM don't broadcast it and on sky it's very very good.

              Regards.

Yeah, that's it exactly -- she made a point of saying that ALL virgin's HD stuff if proper HD @ 1080, but a lot of sky stuff is just upscaled.

Guess the thing is if it makes a massive difference when viewing..............

I have the HD package now on Sky at the half price deal, and I have to say, I would not pay the extra dosh for the HD pack on either vrigin or sky if it was full price.

I have a full 1080p and a 1080i TV and there is absolutely minimal difference between the 2 when watchin TV. The only time you can tell is when a very fast moving scene is on,,,

Virgin and Sky are the same quality really..
