lost virgin box..help please

hi guys

i need to upgrade my tv package but have mislaid the virgin box and they want to charge me ?250 for a new one....i have the new smartcard but no box.....any suggestions as to a way round this please....thanks

Buy another one. But the card needs to be paired to the box anyway. So this would involve phoning them up to do this for you.

I know someone who has a samsung box that they no longer use.

....no i didn`t sell the box,,,im not that stupid....but my wife might have thrown it out, she IS that stupid....our dbox had lasted 3 years and wife has had at least 2 clear out in that time,and never thought that we would need a big silver box at the back of cupboard...anyway i can buy one for 20quid but will that do the trick???... i assume as it will not be registered to me it probably wont work the moment i plug it in....what i need to know is will i get away when i phone up and they send out an engineer? im sure someone will have been in this situation thanks again

get a old box and put the card in it and then dip it in water then phone them say it was the kids

It wont work as i said the card has to be paired to the box. nothing wrong with getting another box and phoning them saying you aquired another as yours broke.

They cant really say much but the ?250 to replace your old box is a fine on there behalf. They will know you have been using a dodgy box but what can they do about it.

Just phone them up when you get another box.

i plugged my original Samsung box that i havent had plugged in for 4 years and replaced the old card with the new 1 it worked for a day then the box packed up i phoned them they sent a engineer round he replaced the box with my new card messed around with the engineer menu and it worked . So if some 1 knows there way around the engineer menu job done . To get in the menu unplug box hold down your up and down buttons on the box and then the menu will appear

cheers billy.....that sounds positive....the guy who got me the box should know that sort of stuff...also im going to hunt down an engineer and ask him his thoughts...but hopefully i can get out of this jam without the ?250 fine.

Call their bluff mate, tell them you want to cancel has sky will give you a free hd pvr and 12 months half price subs, free broadband and calls.
I thinks that should secure you a Virgin HD PVR F.O.C.

Standard virgin boxes cant cost them ?20, they are taking the mick.

thanks jones that is a very good idea will try it.......by the way i dont mind paying to get HD box at ?49 ..i take it that box would be used to replace the one i have lost?

as for you ERNIE...you are a scumbag...im hardly going to go on VIRGIN website and say that i was using a dodgy box and that wife threw out my real one ,am I ? but you feel great need to say how you hope i get caught and so on....unbelievable.... thanks to everyone on here for sensible answers

sorry another rant at ernie,,,,uglybloke is right that is despicable copying my post from here and shopping me on virgin board that i was using a dodgy box....


virgin locked my thread but removed ernies copy and paste, so even they must have thought he was out of order doing it..... he had a go at me from the start... i bet he never even taped a song off the radio in case the police turned up at his door .

Just ask for an upgrade of a box,say a V+ HD box
V+ HD box is free of charge with XL package at the moment
They will tell you its ?35 installation for an engineer to come out and install.Tell them you can do it yourself and it will cost ?15
In this way,the box will be delivered by courier service.You sign for it and inside there is a letter stating to return your old box within 21 days or you will be charged ?55.So just do not send any box back and you will only be charged ?55 not ?250

i've posted it in the best cable package thread but: for ?35 1 off fee (whether it's a install fee or whatever i ain't bothered) & because i went up to the xl package i've a hd box & for ?5 a month i got a extra card to go in the old box upstairs for the kids. i also took a landline for ?6 a month which got me 6 months free landline calls.
so for ?51 a month
xl tv
large broadband
landline with 6 months free landline calls
card for other box upstairs so they get same channels
